💜 Mental Health Awareness Week 2025 💜
Theme: Top Up Together

This year’s theme encourages us to connect with others and bring the Five Ways to Wellbeing into our daily lives — Connect, Give, Take Notice, Keep Learning, and Be Active.

In 2025, the focus is on the power of community — because research shows that when we look after our wellbeing together, the benefits are stronger and last longer. 🌿

Staying connected is a big part of feeling good. It gives us purpose, a sense of belonging, and helps us feel valued. Whether it’s volunteering, learning something new, getting active, celebrating culture, or joining community events — these shared experiences boost our mental health and help our oranga (wellbeing) thrive.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, let’s Top Up Together — for ourselves, for each other, and for our community. 💜

✨ Meet the Practice ✨

We’re excited to introduce you to the wonderful team here at Westland Medical Centre 💜

👩‍⚕️ Name: Louise Bradley
🩺 Role: Health Improvement Practitioner (HIP)

💬 I was born and raised in sunny Nelson NZ. Graduated with Bachelor of Social Work from NMIT in 2018. Then moved to the bottom of the South - Invercargill, where I lived for 7 years. Now residing in Hokitika excited to make the West Coast home.
Whilst in Invercargill, I worked with Rangatahi, Tamariki and Whānau. I worked as a Youth Mentor for an organisation called Number 10 Southland Youth One Stop Shop and then later worked as a Social Worker in Schools for Barnardos NZ.
I have experience facilitating groups, I previously facilitated a LGBTQIA+ group for a number of years supporting the LGBTQIA+ rangatahi community of Southland. I have facilitated other groups around behaviour management and mindfulness creative expression. I have experience working with neurodiversity, loss and grief, and mental health. I work from a client centred, strengths-based approach.
In my spare time I enjoy being near or on the water, exploring new places, testing my photography skills, and on a rainy day relaxing in my beanbag with a good book and live music on my record player.
I enjoy walking alongside people supporting them in their journey.

We’re so grateful to have Louise as part of our team, helping to care for our Hokitika community. 🌿

✨ New Series Alert! ✨

Alongside our “Did You Know?” posts, we’re excited to launch a new series: “Meet the Practice” 💜

Each post will introduce you to one of the wonderful team members here at Westland Medical Centre, so you can get to know the friendly faces who care for our community. 🌿

👩‍⚕️ Introducing: Emma Wieblitz
🩺 Role: Health Coach
💬 After dedicating 21 years as a Pharmacy Technician in Hokitika, I took a brief detour into a role outside the health sector. This experience reaffirmed my passion for health and well-being, and I’m thrilled to return to the field as a Health Coach with West Coast Health. This allows me to support individuals to take control of their own health journey and make positive changes to live their healthiest lives.
Born and raised on the West Coast, I grew up in a family that loved the outdoors. In my spare time I enjoy beach walking, trail running, tramping, kayaking and swimming in the West Coast lakes and rivers. I love embracing the West Coast lifestyle with my husband, our two boys, and extended family. These activities not only keep me active but also connect me to the natural beauty that surrounds us.

Stay tuned as we share more of our amazing team with you!

Welcome to the first of our series titled “Did You Know?”

This is where we share information about Westland Medical Centre that is designed to be informative and helpful.

Our first piece is . . . Did You Know?

We now have a Health Coach and a Health Improvement Practitioner at Westland Medical Centre and these are FREE to you!!

Health coaches can help you with any ongoing health problem including long-term conditions such as:
• diabetes
• high cholesterol
• high blood pressure
• weight loss
• gout
• asthma
• sleep problems
• low mood
• depression
• anxiety
• smoking cessation
• chronic pain.

Health coaches also focus on prevention and can work alongside you if you have prediabetes or want to work on creating healthy habits.

A health coach can also connect you with a health improvement practitioner (HIP) for more support with mental health, addiction and/or behaviour change.

A health improvement practitioner can see people of all ages and at all stages of their lives. They work with you to improve your overall wellbeing by providing support and follow-up for any physical, spiritual, social, or mental issues or concerns. Things often discussed include:
• sleep problems
• chronic pain
• anxiety and stress
• identity issues including cultural, sexual and gender
• improving social issues (parenting, relationships, loneliness, domestic violence)
• addiction concerns.

But HIPs are not limited to working in specific areas, they're generalists and will work with anyone about anything.

You may be referred to a Health Coach or Health Improvement Practitioner by one of our clinicians as part of our comprehensive care.

Keep an eye out for more “Did You Know” information coming soon.
