🌟 Golden Years Health Day – Thank You! 🌟

What an incredible day we had! The Golden Years Health Day was such a success, with an amazing turnout and so much community spirit. 💛

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the many organisations and individuals who gave their time and energy to make the day so special.

✨ A special mention to:

Active Southland– our wonderful co-hosts and the team behind the delicious spread that everyone loved.

Alsco – for providing the tablecloths that dressed our space so well.

Macdonald & Weston Funeral Home– for your help with setup, the stunning cake, and bringing along the very cool old-school hearse that everyone enjoyed.

Dave and Office Products – for supplying so many of the consumables, including the table signs that kept everything organised.

Age Concern Southland– for generously hosting us in such an excellent facility.

👏 And to every organisation, volunteer, and supporter who took time out of their Saturday to be part of the day – thank you. Together, you made the Golden Years Health Day a welcoming, informative, and memorable celebration of our older community.

💛 We are so grateful, and we look forward to collaborating again!

We’re excited to share that we are hosting a 3rd-year nursing student for her transition placement!

Many of you will already recognise Billie from her smiling face at our front desk, where she has been one of our casual admin team members. Now, she’s well on her way to becoming a registered nurse, with just a few final hurdles to go (including surviving her transition placement with us 😅).

If you see Billie over the next couple of months, please be supportive as she grows into her new role —we know she’s going to make an amazing nurse!

✈️ Our Little Plane is Taking a Break ✈️

If you’ve been to the clinic in the last couple of years, you’ll have noticed the much-loved wooden plane parked near the children’s toys. It was kindly donated to the practice and has brought endless delight to our younger visitors.

Unfortunately, all that love and adventure has led to a bit of wear and tear. The plane has now gone off for some well-deserved pampering and repairs.

Don’t worry – it will be back, good as new, ready for more playtime adventures in just a few weeks! 🛩️💙

🎉🎂 We’re THREE today! 🎂🎉

It’s hard to believe, but West Invercargill Health is officially 3 years old! We’ve said goodbye to the terrible twos (and all the growing pains that came with them!) and are stepping confidently into year three — with a few laughs, a bit more wisdom, and a whole lot of heart!

We had a bit of fun celebrating today with the team, but more importantly, we want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way — our wonderful patients, community, and whānau.

You’ve helped shape who we are, and we’re so grateful to be part of this awesome community. Here’s to many more years of caring, connection, and community spirit!

📚✨ A New Chapter (But Just for a Bit!) ✨📚

We’re proud (and just a little sad!) to share that Dr Steven Murugayah is heading off on an educational adventure. As part of his GP training, he’ll be doing a short placement at another medical centre.

But don’t worry – this isn’t goodbye! It’s just a study break, and he’ll be back with us in February next year!

In the meantime, our fabulous team of doctors is here to look after you, and the wonderful Dr Devon Winders will be picking up extra shifts to help cover during Steven’s time away.

Curious about what Dr Steven is up to? You can learn more about the GP training programme here:

We’re cheering you on, Dr Steven – and counting down the days till you’re back with us! 👨‍⚕️🎉

The clinic will be closed on Friday 20th June to observe the Matariki public holiday.

Matariki marks the beginning of the Māori New Year — a time for whakamaharatanga (remembrance), whakanuia (celebration), and wawata (aspiration). It's a chance to reflect on those who have passed, come together with whānau and hapori (community) and set intentions for the year ahead.

If you’d like to learn more about the whetū (stars) of Matariki and their meanings, visit this beautiful resource from Te Papa:

https://www.tepapa.govt.nz/discover-collections/read-watch-play/matariki-maori-new-year/what-and-who-matariki/stars-matariki

We wish you all a Matariki kairangi — a Matariki of excellence, hope and renewal.

For urgent medical care while we’re closed, please refer to our pinned post for after-hours services.

Ngā manaakitanga o te tau hou Māori ki a koutou katoa - the blessings of Māori New Year to you all!

There are over 500 stars in the Matariki cluster – but only a handful are visible without the use of a telescope. Each of the stars has their own unique characteristics that Māori acknowledge and honour. Meet the stars here!
