Hi! I’m Melanie, I am the face behind the Body Mechanic brand 👋

I often get asked: “Why did you choose massage therapy?”

The truth is, I’ve always been fascinated by how much our bodies hold onto. Whether it’s the stress of a deadline, the physical toll of a marathon, or just the weight of a busy week—it all shows up in our muscles.

There is nothing more rewarding to me than seeing a client walk into my room carrying the world on their shoulders... and watching them float out an hour later feeling lighter, taller, and finally relaxed. 🕊️

Feeling that tightness? You aren't alone. Between laptop screens and smartphones, our "posture muscles" are working overtime, leading to that nagging ache in the neck and shoulders.

When you spend 8 hours a day hunched over, your muscles actually start to shorten and tighten, creating "knots" that stretching alone can't always fix.

🌿 Your Body Isn’t a "Rental"—It’s Your Only Home

We spend so much time maintaining our cars, updating our phones, and hitting deadlines for others, but how often do we check in with the person running the show?

Putting your physical and mental health first isn’t "extra"—it’s essential maintenance. Here is why prioritizing you changes everything:

• You Can’t Pour from an Empty Cup: When you’re physically exhausted or mentally drained, you aren't giving your best to your family, your career, or your passions. Taking care of yourself is actually the least selfish thing you can do.

• The Mind-Body Connection is Real: Stress doesn’t just stay in your head. It settles in your shoulders, tightens your jaw, and disrupts your sleep. When you soothe the body, the mind finally gets the memo that it’s okay to relax.

• Preventative vs. Reactive: It’s much easier to maintain a flame than it is to recover from a total burnout. Listening to those small aches and "brain fog" moments now prevents the "forced stops" later.

🚨 Ultra runners are a crazy breed, but the race organisers can be crazier!

The Barkley Marathons - dubbed to be the hardest race on earth - has started!

Distance & Elevation: 🏔️

The race officially spans 100 miles over five loops, though many believe it exceeds 130 miles.

It features over 60,000 feet of elevation gain—roughly equivalent to climbing Mount Everest twice.

⛑️ Survival Mechanics:

No GPS or phones are allowed; runners use only a paper map, a compass, and a race-issued analog watch.

📚Checkpoint Books:

To prove they have completed each loop, runners must find hidden books in the woods and rip out the page corresponding to their bib number.

🫣The "Fun Run":

Completing three loops (approx. 60 miles) within 40 hours is a massive achievement in its own right.

🏁 Finishers:

Since its inception in 1986, only 20 people have ever finished the full five loops within the 60-hour cutoff. In 2024, Jasmin Paris made history as the first female finisher. There were no finishers in 2025.

The Science of "Ahhh..." 🧬

Ever wonder why you feel like a completely different person after an hour on my table? It’s not just in your head—it’s in your hormones.

When you’re overwhelmed, your body pumps out Cortisol (the "stress hormone"). High cortisol keeps you in "fight or flight" mode, which leads to tight muscles, poor sleep, and a short fuse.

Massage is the "reset button." The maths is actually pretty simple:

Stress + Massage = ⬇️ cortisol

By lowering that cortisol and boosting your "feel-good" hormones (serotonin and dopamine), we aren't just relaxing your muscles—we’re hitting the mute button on your stress.
