Our Hospice Shop - Invercargill is looking for volunteers to join the team on Fridays and Saturdays.

Do you:
- Enjoy physical, practical work including lifting and sorting?
- Like variety and learning new systems?
- Have retail, customer service, or organisational skills? - or are keen to develop them?

Our retail volunteers work alongside staff as valued team members, helping drive a high-performing shop that funds specialist palliative care across Southland and the Wakatipu Basin.

Last year's Last Night of the Proms show was unforgettable and the generosity even more so!

Our CEO, Pete Thompson, had the pleasure of meeting the amazing organising committee and members of the Inner Wheel Club of Invercargill North this week to receive the incredible $15,000 they raised from the show for Hospice Southland.

Well done to all the fantastic soloists, cast, members of Inner Wheel Club of Invercargill North, and everyone involved in making the night a true showstopper!

When Liam decided it was finally time to cut off his mullet, he knew he wanted it to mean something. Inspired by others he’s seen fundraise and by the stories he’s grown up hearing about Hospice Southland, Liam chose to turn his haircut into a way to give back.

With his grandmother Kate volunteering at our Yarrow Street Hospice Shop, Liam has seen firsthand the positive impact volunteering for Hospice has in our community. Now back at Southland Boys’ High School in Year 8, he was clear about one thing, he wanted the money raised to stay right here in our community.

Thank you, Liam, for your generosity, your big heart, and for choosing Hospice Southland. What an awesome example of young people making a difference

Together, you helped raise an incredible $18,022.75 for Hospice Southland!

Every dollar raised goes directly towards supporting patients and whānau across our Southland and Wakatipu Basin communities.

Check out some of our Hospice Southland - team amped, fired up, and proudly backing the Southland Community Challenge with fire extinguisher donation tins in hand!

Keep an eye out as these Fire Extinguisher Donation Tins make their way around local businesses across Invercargill.

How to get involved:
• Donate with cash or scan the QR code
• Snap a photo
• Share to your socials using
(they’ll reshare to acknowledge your support!)
• Pass the tin on to a neighbouring business
• Keep the Southland Community Challenge burning!

Every dollar donated adds to the total weight that Firefighters and Paramedics will carry in a Stokes Basket during the Wensley CyclesActive SouthlandSurf to City Invercargill event on March 8th 2026.

The basket currently weighs 113kg - and it could climb to 150kg!

Our incredible Queenstown Hospice Shop volunteer Ella Wilson has been with our team for over 10 years, and now she’s also been recognised on the national stage, receiving the King’s Service Medal (K.S.M.) in the New Year’s Honours list for her outstanding service to community and theatre.

Ella has dedicated decades to volunteering with Plunket, the Queenstown Lakes Baby Box Charitable Trust, Showbiz Queenstown, and more. Of all her achievements, she says she’s most proud of the friends she’s made through helping others and we couldn’t agree more!
