Yesterday we were incredibly proud to be presented with our 30-year membership with the Southland Business Chamber. ❤️

Emma and Eru proudly showcased our certificate - a milestone that reflects three decades of commitment, growth, and community connection.

The Chamber does amazing mahi across Southland - supporting local business, creating opportunities, and delivering fantastic events and training that truly strengthen our community.

We’re grateful for their ongoing support and partnership.

Yesterday’s Recap 💨

Most of our team enjoyed a well-deserved day off yesterday, with just a few choosing to keep their routine - management swapped their office attire for work gear (although the boss clearly missed that memo!).

It started as a beautiful morning before the horrific forecasted weather rolled in at lunchtime. Our poor Tiwai crew ended up stuck onsite at Tiwai Point until 7.15 pm due to power lines being down. Thankfully, Tiwai looked after them with a lovely hot meal - and a huge thanks to our incredible Tiwai crew who handled the unfamiliar situation like champs. 💪

Our thoughts are with everyone who’s been affected by the storm or suffered property damage. 💛

If you have any damaged iron to dispose of, feel free to drop it off at Recycle South - we’ll take care of it for you at No Charge.

And the Public Drop Off has reopened♻️

Labour Day on Monday so happy long weekend everyone!

⚠️ WEATHER WARNING – EMPLOYEE AND STAFF NOTICE ⚠️

Sorry for the late notice, team! Hopefully you all received our email earlier.

Due to the severe weather warnings, all employees will have tomorrow off as a normal paid day, with the exception of the Tiwai crew, who will be collected from their homes.

Please note:
• Staff - (Managers, Supervisors, Balers, and Forklift/Loader Drivers) are still required to work tomorrow.
• If any employees still wish to come to work, you are welcome to - however, the bus will not be running.
• You must be dropped off and picked up, or
• Flick Shelley a text and she can pick you up.
• No one is to walk or bike!

⚠️ Bin collection CANCELLED tomorrow (Thu 23 Oct)

Following advice from Emergency Management Southland, WasteNet has cancelled all kerbside bin collections scheduled for Thursday 23 October due to expected extreme winds. Please do not put your bins out.

Due to the expected strong winds, WasteNet has made the tough call to cancel bin collections scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday 23 October.

Please do not put out your bins.

This decision follows advice from Emergency Management Southland, with extreme winds forecast over the next 24 hours. We need to put everyone's safety first.

Unfortunately, because of the long weekend, there will be no alternative collection. Bins will be emptied next Friday (a day later due to Labour Day).

All district-wide transfer stations and the regional recycling centre will remain open and operating as normal.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

🌟 Celebrating Local Leadership & Innovation at Sunrise Rotary Invercargill 🌟

At our recent meeting, we had the pleasure of hearing from Chris, former manager of the Southland Express and now the dynamic new CEO of ReCycle South. Chris shared his inspiring vision for the future of the organisation — one that puts staff wellbeing front and centre, with 24/7 wraparound support.

♻️ While recycling markets remain challenging, it's encouraging to hear that local onshore processing is growing.

✅ A new bin inspection team is already making strides in reducing contamination in yellow bins, and aluminium cans remain a valuable product that can be processed right here in NZ.

Chris’s passion for his team and the mission of ReCycle South was clear — and truly energising.

Mental Health First Aid Training 💚

Emma, Julia and Shelley spent yesterday at Hato Hone St John taking part in Mental Health First Aid Training - and what an incredible session it was!

A big thank-you to Kate, our wonderful facilitator, who was funny, super-informative, and refreshingly open about her own experiences. We all walked away feeling inspired and much better equipped to support others.

Huge thanks also to the Hato Hone St John team for the warm welcome, and an extra-special shout-out to PowerNet for funding this valuable training. Your support really does make a difference 💚
