Recycle South

Recycle South Recycle South is the fresh, new name for Southland DisAbility Enterprises. Recycle South is one of Southland’s key recycling services.

We enrich the lives of people with disabilities by providing meaningful employment through operating a successful recycling and environmentally aware business. We are a registered charity offering those in our community who live with disabilities meaningful employment under the basis that it’s not just work – but quality work. With recycling and sustainability at our core, honest, respectful, and

progressive mindsets are what we care about— and providing equal opportunity to all people. Our facilities can process and recycle plastics, e-waste, paper, cardboard, tin, aluminium, most agricultural plastics and more. We even offer a secure document destruction service, packaging products for companies - in fact, if you can think it up, we'll give it a go! Check out what we do at recyclesouth.org.nz or give us a call on 03 214 6188.

Today looked a little different for the Bachelor of Nursing Year 2 students 👩‍⚕️♻️

After ticking off their induction ✅
and gearing up in full PPE ✅
the students swapped their stethoscopes 🩺 for gloves, hearing protection and safety glasses to get a hands-on look at how our amazing team processes recycling every day.

A huge thanks to the students for getting stuck in, asking great questions and learning more about the people and processes behind recycling in Southlan

We would like to introduce Deanne Barnett, our new Health & Safety Champion, who will be supporting and promoting workplace health, safety, and wellbeing across the organisation.

After five years in the dairy industry and nearly twenty years working in quarrying, Deanne brings a wealth of practical experience and a genuine passion for workplace health and safety.

With a hands-on understanding of high-risk industries, Deanne is committed to promoting safe work practices, encouraging open communication, and helping foster a positive safety culture across the organisation. For Deanne, health and safety is not simply about compliance - it is about protecting people, supporting wellbeing, and making a meaningful difference in the workplace every day.

A big thank you to the amazing 2nd Year Bachelor of Nursing students who are with us this week carrying out wellbeing and health checks as part of their training 👩‍⚕️🩺💙

Our team have really enjoyed the opportunity to take part, ask questions, and have some important health checks done in a relaxed and supportive environment.

It’s awesome to see future healthcare professionals gaining hands-on experience while also making a real difference in our workplace and community.

Thanks for bringing your kindness, professionalism, and care to Recycle South this week 💙♻️

🦆 Quick reminder for duck shooting season that kicked off this weekend 🎯

Our recycling team hand-sort everything in your yellow bins - and they’re the same people who head to Queens Park to feed the ducks. Seeing parts of these birds or any animal come through the recycling line is genuinely upsetting for them.

So please:

🚫 No duck waste in yellow bins
🚫 No shotgun shells in yellow bins
✅ Bag animal waste and place it in your red bin

Let’s keep the yellow bins for recyclables only — no fowl play, please. ♻️

♻️ Recycle South supporting Wyndham Rugby – 125 Years Strong! 🏉

We were proud to be working alongside Wyndham Rugby Club last weekend as they celebrated their 125th Jubilee - helping collect and recycle all their beverage cans so fewer end up in landfill and more get a second life. 🍻➡️♻️

Big events don’t have to mean big waste. With the right setup, clubs and community groups can make a real difference - and it’s easier than you might think.

If your club, organisation, event or function would like to have Recycle South bins on site to capture cans and boost recycling, we’d love to help make it happen.
