Fond farewell to 2025 and a big hello to 2026! 🎉

We kicked off the year with a couple of firsts — starting the week with Monday BoxFit at 6:30am, followed by SeniorFit Tuesday and Wednesday at Kauri Lodge, finishing with a visit to the Kerikeri Stone Store. What a great way to begin the year!

That’s a wrap for 2025! Huge thanks to everyone who helped make it such a memorable year.

From the amazing support shown to our residents at Kauri Lodge, to the commitment and endorsement for health and wellbeing initiatives in the community — we really appreciate it all. Looking forward to doing it all again next year.

A very Merry Christmas and a huge thank you to the Rapid Respond Team for their generous donation of food parcels and personal care kits. These were distributed yesterday to whānau in the community and to residents at Kauri Lodge.

We really appreciate you dropping them in with Mathew — and we hope the fishing went well! 🎣🎄

Kauri Lodge residents enjoyed a fabulous buffet lunch on Friday, with toe-tapping entertainment from the Pohutelele Ukulele Group. Big thanks Yvonne for organising.

Santa made a surprise appearance—squeezing Kauri Lodge into his very busy schedule—while whānau spent special time-sharing laughs and festive cheer with their loved ones.

Santa’s little helpers outdid themselves decorating the doors of Kauri Lodge. The decorations were so good that the judge (who wishes to remain anonymous… for their own safety) had an extremely hard time choosing a winner.

A huge thank you to Mel, Aileen, and Analyn who came in on their own time to sprinkle Christmas magic and make Kauri Lodge look amazing.

We couldn’t have done it without you! 🎄✨

So grateful to these two beautiful wahine, Neethu and Neeve from Dental Planet, for all the smiles they have brought back to whānau faces over the last couple of weeks. During their eight-day clinic they treated 57 whānau, with five needing urgent follow-up care. Four Kauri Lodge residents were also assessed, with two requiring treatment.

Regrettably, not everyone of the 91 who expressed interest were able to be seen for various reasons — mostly due to not meeting the criteria or not getting the required paperwork back in time. All lessons for the next visit.

A big shout-out to Alfred from Dental Planet for his continued support of this initiative; Sunitha from Te Whatu Ora; Warren and Ellie from Te Taumata Hauora o Te Kahu o Taonui – Iwi Māori Partnership Board; Grace and Sarah at the Ministry of Social Development (MSD); and Winnie from the Wellness Team at Whangaroa Health Services. Your shared commitment to improving the oral health of our community is truly appreciated.

Please note that Omaunu House will be open during the following hours over summer:

Monday, Thursday, Friday: 6:00am – 4:00pm

Tuesday & Wednesday: 6:00am – 6:15pm

Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year Day and Day After New Year Day and weekends.

Make sure to check in regularly for the latest updates on when classes will resume in the New Year.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! 🎄
Some of our residents spent Sunday soaking up the atmosphere at Hineraumati, cooling off with ice cream and hanging out with the jolly red fella himself. 🍦🎅
Big shout-out to Lisa and Mel for organising the adventure — and surviving the heat! ☀️🔥
Back at Kauri Lodge, the “Decorate Your Door” competition is officially ON, and things are getting seriously competitive. Final judging happens Friday… may the most festive door win! 🚪✨
And to wrap up the week, the residents’ Christmas Lunch on Friday. Looking forward to the yummy food, the fun, and the festive vibes! 🎁🎉

Our local tamariki have been very busy planting at the Sowing Machine in the Kaeo playground, and the bean seedlings are now ready to be planted out. If anyone would like some plants, they’re available to take home.

They’re very simple to grow — a bucket and a fence for support is all you need. With the great growing weather we’re having, you’ll be enjoying fresh beans in no time.
