With winter sports well under way, common injuries have been making their way back into the clinic. One of the most common sports injuries being ankle sprains.

Traditionally 'RICE' (Rest, Ice, Compress and Elevate) was said to be most effective for managing swelling after a sprain, however, more research is now pointing towards a new acronym: 'PEACE & LOVE'.

Here's how you can manage an ankle sprain using PEACE & LOVE principles:

Back pain is one of the most common injuries we see in the clinic.

To get a head start in your rehab - try these 3 basic stretches to help mobilise your lower back at home. Make sure to call up and book in with a physio to be assessed if your back pain is worsening.

Achilles Tendon Injuries 🦢🏼

Achilles injuries are extremely common and can happen during running/jumping sports or even just when you're going about your everyday life.

The ultimate goal of an Achilles rehabilitation program is to build endurance and resistance to high loads. Starting your rehab early will improve your likelihood of returning to your normal activities pain free.

MEET THE TEAM 🌞

Hello wonderful Top North Physio community! My name is AJ and I'm absolutely delighted to introduce myself one of the newest members of the Top North Physio family.

Let me share a bit about my journey to this point: Originally from the vibrant and culturally rich land of Pakistan πŸ‡΅πŸ‡°, I dedicated five years of hard work and passion to earn my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. But my thirst for knowledge didn't stop there. I took the leap to further specialize and enhance my skills in orthopedic manual physical therapy, earning a Master of Science in this specialized field. πŸ“š

But here's a little secret about me – when I'm not working to help others on their path to recovery, I find solace in singing cultural songs. 🎀🎢 It's a passion that allows me to stay connected to my roots and embrace the beauty of diverse cultures.

As for life in the Far North, New Zealand, I must say, I've fallen in love with this place! The serene landscapes and the warm and welcoming community have made my transition here absolutely wonderful. πŸŒ„πŸŒΏ

I'm genuinely looking forward to getting to know all of you, whether it's at the clinic or sharing some cultural tunes. Please feel free to reach out and say hello – I'd love to connect with each and every one of you. πŸ‘‹

A huge thank you to my new colleagues at Top North Physio for the warm welcome, and I can't wait to contribute to our shared mission of health and wellness. πŸ€—
