Circle Of Brothers

Circle Of Brothers The Circle of Brothers (COB) was first established in 2014 in Te Hiku o te Ika.

It is at its core a brotherhood and support network for Māori men, who are on a quest to be role models for the next generation of tāne in Aotearoa.

Huihui mai e te motu!

HUI TĀNE National Māori Men's Mental Health & Wellbeing Conference 2025!

Join us from July 1-3, 2025, at Te Rangi Aniwaniwa, Te Hiku o te Ika for a transformative experience dedicated to the mental health and the wellbeing of Tāne Māori.

It’s time.

After more than a decade, we’re bringing Māori men back together to wānanga, connect, and rebuild the movement. This isn’t about fixing you, it’s about finding strength in the kaupapa, in each other and reminding ourselves who we are.

“We are still losing too many brothers to cultural disconnection, drugs and alcohol, violence, incarceration, depression & su***de. There are many good programmes around Aotearoa, but our networks have frayed, and our connections have been lost. We need to bring good people and good kaupapa back to the table, rebuild the network and re-establish the connections. We need our brothers to know that we care about them, and we will be here for them, hakoa ko wāi hakoa nō hea tū te ao, tū te pō” - Hone Harawira

🗓️ Highlights include:

🔥 Kōrero from Hone Harawira, Mike King, and Dave Letele.

💬 Workshops on the real stuff - violence, addiction, identity, healing.

🎣 Fishing comps, Tāne Olympics, Hakari, and a night to celebrate us.

Tuakana-Teina: Strengthening the Next Generation

The Circle of Brothers was privileged to visit Te Kura Takiwā o Mangonuiōwae this week, delivering a kauhau to the young brothers in the West. As a brotherhood and support network committed to being role models for the next generation of tāne, this was more than just a visit—it was a chance to uplift, inspire, and reinforce the values that shape us.

We shared our COB philosophies of kotahitanga, the power of brotherhood, and the responsibility to lead with integrity. Seeing the spark in our rangatahi, knowing we could fill their cups while filling our own, reminded us why we do this mahi.

We stand as the Brothers of Change, lifting as we climb.. Full ⭕️ mentality!

Brothers ⭕️f Change – Strengthening the Next Generation

The C ⭕️ B's were privileged to visit Broadwood Area School this week, delivering a kōrero with purpose to the young brothers in the West. As a brotherhood and support network committed to being role models for the next generation of tāne, this was more than just a visit—it was a chance to uplift, inspire, and reinforce the values that shape us.

Through the Tuakana-Teina model, we shared our COB philosophies—strength in unity, the power of brotherhood, and the responsibility to lead with integrity. Seeing the spark in our Taitamatāne, knowing we could fill their cups while filling our own, reminded us why we do this mahi and want to grow in this area.

This is just the beginning. We will be back. Because change is built through consistency, connection, and commitment. We stand as Brothers of Change—leading by example, lifting as we climb.

+++ Tomorrow night in Kaitāia +++

Tēnā tātou e te whānau,

The Circle of Brothers is supporting a kaupapa alongside local budding kairangahau Heemi Kapa-Kingi (University of Auckland) to create a resource for whānau walking alongside rangatahi navigating self-harm. Our tamariki and mokopuna thrive when they are supported with aroha and understanding, and as Tāne—whether as matua, uncles, cousins, or kaitiaki—we have a vital role in their wellbeing.

This hui is looking to engage whānau who have supported a rangatahi through this journey, as well as young people who have felt that support. Your whakaaro will help shape a resource to strengthen whānau and empower us to awhi our rangatahi with confidence.

This hui will be held in Kaitaia—if you or someone you know would like to be involved, please reach out. Together, we can uplift our rangatahi.

Nā tō rourou, nā taku rourou, ka ora ai te iwi.

Kua hoki toa mai ngā tāne! Victory on the Warpath!

Another 6-week campaign of heightening our consciousness about Oranga as Tāne achieved ☑️

Over the 6- weeks we have had 20 group engagements, 14 of those being in person with 100% of our 26 registered Tāne who started being there at the end. Imparting basic life qualities and values such as commitment, discipline, follow-through and accountability to not only one another but to ourselves is a major focus of The Warpath in building stronger men for stronger whānau.

Throwing the weights around🏋🏽, running as a pack and indulging in the brotherhood are just the bonuses 🤌

We have another Tāne Wānanga | Mens Health Retreat in the works 👀🤫.....So stay tuned for updates from the ©️ircle ⭕️F 🅱️rothers

: Celebrations for successful six-week hauora campaign

The Warpath is concluding the final week of its 6-week hauora program driven by The Circle of Brothers. The success of this sixth campaign is a testament to the benefit that these kaupapa bring to and for tāne in Te Hiku o Te Ika. Conor Watene-O’Sullivan says the program has seen participants returning, but has also attracted new participants. He’s encouraged that it’s contributing to the mindset growth of healthier lifestyles for whānau in Muriwhenua. This week concluded with a celebration dinner for its tāne, which Conor hopes will cement the bonds created.
