This morning I noticed my dog wasn’t himself. His right ear hung lower than usual, his head gave little shakes, and when I gently touched the ear, he let out a sharp yelp. But what grabbed me even more was his expression that heavy, sulky, “don’t look at me” energy animals get when something has rattled them on the inside.
And that’s the moment where homeopathy becomes less about symptoms and more about story.
Because the timing was too perfect to ignore. One minute he’d been fine, the next he was withdrawn, avoiding eye contact, carrying a mix of guilt and tension in his whole body. That emotional shift came before the physical one, and that’s exactly where the aetiology shows itself.
And honestly? Clocking that and clocking it quickly changes the entire direction of the case.
So instead of reaching straight for the classic ear remedies, I followed the thread of his behaviour: the shame, the subdued mood, the way his body looked like it had tightened from the inside out. That’s pure Staphysagria.
Staphysagria is the remedy for the emotionally bruised the ones who feel they’ve disappointed someone, who internalise their upset and turn it into physical tension. Animals show it just as clearly as people: the sulking, the avoidance, the sudden dip in confidence, and symptoms that come on right after an emotional sting.
So I gave him a single dose of Staphysagria 200C.
And it was like watching a little knot loosen inside him. Within minutes his ear began to lift, the tightness around his eyes eased, and that crushed, “what have I done?” expression softened. His whole posture changed, like he finally exhaled.
The ear improved because the emotion that caused it released.
That’s the part of homeopathy I wish everyone could see symptoms aren’t random. They’re the body’s response to a story. And when you understand the story, the remedy just clicks.
