10 Years After Breast Cancer, I’m Building Something New.
This year marks a decade in remission.
Six years after diagnosis, my surgeon stamped my file in red: DISCHARGED.
I thought I would feel victorious.
Instead, I felt quiet.
Because here’s the truth no one prepares you for:
Discharge is not recovery.
Recovery is a long-term relationship with your nervous system, hormones, stress load and daily habits.
The data tells us recurrence risk is highest in the first five years. What the data does not measure well is the long tail of survivorship:
• Chronic fatigue
• Brain fog
• Hormonal disruption
• Hypervigilance
• Loss of identity
• Workplace burnout post-treatment
Breast cancer remains the most common cancer affecting women. In New Zealand alone, more than 3,500 women are diagnosed every year. Only 5 to 10 percent of cases are driven by inherited gene mutations.
The majority are influenced by age, hormones, metabolic health, alcohol intake, stress and environment.
Which means the bigger conversation is prevention, metabolic health and lifestyle.
So after five years of coaching in metabolic health and nervous system regulation, I am evolving my work.
I am stepping fully into breast wellness coaching.
Bringing together:
• Metabolic flexibility and blood glucose regulation
• Trauma-informed nervous system repair
• Nutrition grounded in science
• EFT tapping for emotional regulation
• Lifestyle medicine for long-term risk reduction
This next chapter is called Breast Wise.
It is about whole-person healing.
Prevention. Diagnosis. Recovery. Long-term wellbeing.
It is my most aligned and passionate work to support women to have the confidence and hope.
Ten years ago I was fighting to survive.
Today I am building systems that help women live wisely, confidently and with resilience long after treatment ends.
If you are navigating recovery, I would love to connect.
We can do better in how we support survivorship.
And I am here to help lead that conversation.
