Posts like this one from Hyde Boutique are a powerful reminder of how quickly life can change on our roads.
Yesterday someone lost their life in a crash on the Lindis Pass. Our thoughts are with their loved ones, and with everyone who was involved in the response.
It’s also a reminder of something we see time and time again: in those first critical moments, it’s often members of the public who step forward to help before emergency services arrive.
Knowing CPR or basic first aid can give you the confidence to act in those moments. It doesn’t make emergencies easier, but it can mean someone is there to help when it matters most.
If you’ve ever thought about learning first aid, consider this your sign. You never know when those skills might be needed. ❤️
This afternoon myself and a friend were caught up in a major car accident on the Lindis Pass.
We're okay and don't have any injuries, and our vehicle came off relatively unscathed due to my friend’s speedy evasive action, but we were heavily involved in the response with emergency teams for several hours.
Unfortunately one person didn't make it, and my heart hurts for them and their family ♥️
I was so blown away by the skill and compassion shown by all of the first responders, helicopter crew, and other members of the public who jumped in.
I feel so grateful for the quick evasive action my friend took, and the way that all people come together in a crisis to help others.
There’s a few things I urge you to do.
Do a First Aid course. This was invaluable today for me. Today is the second time I’ve been first on scene and performed CPR. Please, please do this.
Get a small fire extinguisher for your car. Today two vehicles involved caught on fire, making an already incredibly stressful situation, worse.
Get a cpr face shield for your car.
I’ll be taking the next day quietly x
Life can change in an instant. Love your people hard, and always be alert when you’re driving - you can’t control the actions of others but being as aware as you can be might help you ♥️
