Pink Shirt Day is tomorrow, and it’s a good reminder that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

Showing care for others can support mental wellbeing, strengthen connections, and help people feel seen, valued, and included. And best of all? It doesn’t need to cost anything! There are lots of simple ways to spread a little joy:

💬 CONNECT WITH KINDNESS
Send a thoughtful message, spend time with someone who might be lonely, or have a friendly chat with your bus driver.

🤝 GIVE SOMEONE A HELPING HAND
Bring in a neighbour’s rubbish bin, hold the door open, or help someone with a task at mahi.

📱 BE KIND ONLINE
Leave a supportive comment, send a friend a funny meme, or pause before posting something that could hurt someone.

🌿 TREAT YOURSELF WITH KINDNESS
Write down three things you’re grateful for, go for a walk outdoors, or take a moment to breathe.

This week (4–10 May) is New Zealand Sign Language Week, a time to celebrate one of our country’s official languages and the importance of inclusive communication.

New Zealand Sign Language helps thousands of Deaf and hard-of-hearing people connect with their whānau, communities, and healthcare providers every day.

Learning your name in NZSL is one of the simplest ways to get involved, and it’s something you can share with your whānau, friends, and colleagues.

The chart below shows the NZSL alphabet. Why not try fingerspelling your name, then teach someone else theirs?

Even learning a few simple signs makes a real difference. It shows respect, builds understanding, and helps create a more inclusive environment for everyone.

The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand encourages people experiencing anxiety to focus on small, meaningful actions that help them feel more grounded and in control. This might include spending time in nature, connecting with others, or taking simple steps that align with your values.
