Mana Wāhine is a proud sponsor of ❤️🖤 KBJ Netball Club - Porirua warm up T-shirts for the 2026 netball season. KBJ collaborate closely along side Ora Toa Health Services to promote Wāhine Hauora within the Porirua region.

These kakahu encourage all who see it to inact their own Tino Rangatiratanga and engage with health providers to ensure they are up to date with their cervical, breast, Cardio Vascular Disease, Diabete screenings.

Through hakinakina we have champion rangatahi who understand the importance of health checks & are proud to promote hauora within their communities.

All the best to KBJ for the netball season 🔥 kia kaha, kia Maia, kia manawanui ☺️

World Indigenous Cancer Conference 2026 ❤️

Our Mana Wāhine team attended the conference held in Tamaki Makaurau on 21-23 April. This opportunity for professional development for our team to understand on a global scale how whanau living with cancer are impacted. What is our contribution to preventative measure within our Mana Wāhine beast & cervical screening service as well as our cancer navigation service.

The learnings were greatly received & our team walked away with new knowledge and continue passion to continue to serve our communities across Te Whanganui a Tara 🥰

🩵 Te Mauri Porirua 🩵

On Wednesday we acknowledged a significant passing of our beloved Whaea Matewawe Pouwhare last week. Matewawe was a founding member of Te Mauri alongside Matua Lewis Stephenson. Our night we shared specific karakia & waiata Matewawe design as this kaupapa will continue to be a legacy of Whaea Matewawe. Whaea Matewawe had touched many lives and she will be sadly missed by many.

Our Te Mauri discussion this night was centred around our individual relationship with grief and how we call on our Atua Māori to identify forms of healing. When our whanau living with cancer are feeling isolated to have the courage to ask whanau for support and not endure what can be a very lonely path. Lots of kōrero came from our roopū and lots of whakawatea moments happened.

Thank you to our Ringawera who prepared our Kai on Wednesday. We ended our night with a lovely Kai to whakanoa our wairua and prepare everyone for another week.

Hui-Fono 2026 💜

Mana Wāhine alongside Breast Screening Aotearoa, Breast Screening Central & Pacific Health Service facilitated a wananga addressing inequities around our Māori & Pacific Wāhine accessing breast screening across Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

We were fortunate to have Dr Chris Mowat present from a surgeon perspective on common themes presenting within her clinics and why early detection & prevention is best. Thank you very much Dr Chris Mowat for your contribution to our Wāhine within our community. Truly inspiring 🥰

Thank you to all our Wāhine who attended the day and participated in the different break out sessions where we were able to discuss and find lots of golden nuggets as we plan for the 2026 year as a collective.

Lastly a huge mihimihi to our excellent ringawera whanau for catering our hui-fono wananga. Apart of a successful wananga is the kai shared with one another and the whanaungatanga portal that our Kai opens.

🪶Te Ra o Te Raukura 2026🪶

What an amazing day celebrating matauranga Māori, hauora and kai. Our beautiful Wellington weather created the most spectacular day to come together and celebrate one another.

Our Kokiri Marae Mana Wāhine & Cancer Navigation service were located in the Hauora tent. Lots of beautiful kōrero shared as well new relationships built within the different services in attendance on the day.

Thank you to the Te Rā o Te Raukura Kōmiti and Te Runanga o Te Atiawa / Sponsors for putting on a wonderful whanau-centred community event.
