Kia ora tatou! It's so wonderful to see the kōwhai tree blossoming in its yellow glory outside my window.

Spring. A word that brings a smile to your face just by saying that magical word. After the long wet winter we have experienced in my part of the world, the sight of daffodils, blossoms and baby lambs is enough to feel optimistic about what is to come. Ayurveda has a concept called ritucharya, wh

To be human is to experience the whole rainbow of living. One of the more challenging colours on this incredible arch of experience includes grief. To grieve is to find ones self in a state that can feel bottomless. Whether we are grieving the death of a loved one, the passing of a furry friend, p

Does your body move with more ease when it’s colder? Or do you find your joints cracking and skin feeling particularly dry during the winter months? Is your mind more clear and do you feel less agitated? Or do you struggle to keep your hands warm? Generally speaking, winter is seen as a vata/kapha

Breathe in and breathe out.

My walk on the beach this morning was yet another reminder of the healing power that resides in Mother Nature. It is said that the goddess Lakshmi resides in nature and all its beauty and when we pray for prosperity and wealth (with an understanding that our own hard work and bravery results in such prosperity), then Goddess Lakshmi is whom we aim our prayers toward.

It got me thinking that the greatest prosperity I need right now is that of inner peace. Sure a few more dollars in the bank account, my own home, holidays abroad, some new clothes would be nice. But what I am truly seeking is peace.

How beautiful that Lakshmi is in the place we are go to for a reminder of our own divinity.

Cyclic rhythms are everywhere in nature, whether it's the tides, moon phases and seasonal changes. They are a beautiful reminder of the one we carry everywhere within ourselves, our breath.

I was at the beach during high tide and it was truly supremely high, reaching all the way to the rocks and ramps that lead down to the beach. I took the opportunity to stop and observe the water, which was particularly flat apart for the odd small breaker right near the rocks. I noticed the water moving in two directions, as if it were inhaling and exhaling. And in between each 'Breath' was a moment of stillness. The South Pacific Ocean doing its own version of Pranayama.

Whether it's the Covid blues that have got you down or a challenging time with relationships, work or general life stuff, take the time to connect with the outside world. Marvel at the beauty of rain, fog, thunder and sunshine. Steep yourself in Mother Nature and remember you are an expression of the universe in human form.

Sometimes when you've been having a trying time, Mother Nature provides a spectacular moment to be in the present. Don't miss it by busying yourself with chores.

For the past month I have been ruminating on a phrase my mum use to always say to my brothers and I. “Do things with a good heart”. Seems to simple, doesn’t it? But what does it mean? Well, if you intend to do something, either for yourself or for someone else, do it with pure intentions. With...

A few nights ago we had the full moon of Holi for the the northern hemisphere. For us Antipodean dwellers, this was the full moon of the autumn Equinox. As we turn towards the darkness, for times of contemplation and groundedness, I thought what better way to acknowledge this dramatic shift in our environment than to watch the moon rise with my 5 year old.

It was spectacular in every way. Happy Autumn Equinox.

Red tinges on some leaves, a cooler wind blowing and certainly the daylight hours getting shorter. It is a time of year when the extroverted energy of summer starts to with

You can feel the turn in season down in the Southern hemisphere with a slow change in what's available at the local farmers market and in our gardens heralding the arrival of Autumn.

We have a small grape vine at home and have been watching with great excitement as the fruit grows bigger, plumper and change colour. Now most are ready to eat. 🍇

Grapes or draksa in Sanskrit, are considered the best among all the fruits in Ayurveda. 👌🏾

Arriving in time for autumn and at a time when our bodies have accumulated the heat of the summer, grapes help cool us down and remove excess heat from the body.

Interestingly, the skin is astringent in taste, leaving your mouth feel dry. The flesh of a perfectly ripe grape is sweet. However a grape that isn't quite ripe, is sour. Try and stick to the sweet grapes as both sweet and astringent tastes help reduce heat in the body as well as reduce the effects of vata as we turn towards autumn.
