Hot Water Bottles safety

We’ve noticed an increase in hot water bottle burns recently, especially with the colder weather. These injuries can be serious, but most are preventable.

A few safety tips:

Replace regularly – bottles older than 2 years are more likely to split.

Fill with care – use hot (not boiling) water and fill only two-thirds full.

Check for wear – cracks, thinning, or hardened patches mean it’s time for a new one.

Protect your skin – always use a cover or wrap in a towel.

Extra caution with children – never give a hot water bottle directly to young kids or babies.

Hot water bottles are great for warmth and comfort, but only when used safely. Stay cosy and stay safe.

Introducing Heidi: AI-powered support for doctors

We’re excited to share that some of our doctors are now using “Heidi”; an advanced AI tool designed to enhance efficiency and accuracy in patient care. The GP will ask your permission first and if you decline, that is completely fine, and it will not be used.

Heidi is a recording programme that sits quietly in the background on a doctor’s computer, transcribing the consultation into a clinical note. This allows the doctor to be fully engaged in the conversation rather than typing into a computer.

After the consultation, the doctor reviews and finalises the notes before adding them to the patient’s record.

All recordings are securely processed and automatically deleted after a set timeframe, with no direct connection to patient records, ensuring complete confidentiality and privacy.

With Heidi, we’re embracing innovation to streamline workflows and provide even better care for you.

If you have any questions or concerns about Heidi, feel free to speak with your doctor or any member of our team. We are committed to ensuring your comfort and confidence in our services.

Make Heidi work for your practice in New Zealand with these free resources. Browse clinician best practices, patient explainers, Heidi FAQs & more.
