New Twizel Medical Centre Nursing Team

As our team continues to grow and evolve, we take a moment to acknowledge both heartfelt farewells and exciting new beginnings within our nursing whānau.
A very special goodbye goes to Jess Sloan, who has been a valued and dedicated member of the TMC team for the past six years. Working across both District Nursing and Practice Nursing roles, Jess has shown incredible versatility, commitment, and compassion in caring for our community. She has contributed so much to our service, our patients, and our team culture—her kindness, professionalism, and steady presence will be deeply missed. We are incredibly grateful for everything she has given to TMC. As she and her whānau begin a new chapter in Lumsden, we wish them all the very best and every happiness for the future.
We also say farewell to Elza O’Brien, who has been with us for the past two years. Elza has grown in her role as a Rural Practice Nurse, transitioning from a private hospital setting and developing strong adaptability, autonomy, and a deep connection to community-based care. Elza has recently married congratulations to Elza and Nathan on this exciting milestone! We wish them both a wonderful future together.
At the same time, we are thrilled to welcome some fantastic new nurses to our team: Fiona Chamberlain, Nicky Taylor, and Bridie Brosnahan. We are so excited to have them join us and look forward to the skills, energy, and care they will bring to our community.
And finally, keep an eye out for our team in our stunning new uniforms—we’re proud to represent TMC with a fresh new look!
Ngā mihi nui to all—past, present, and future members of our incredible nursing team.

We’re excited to introduce our brand new ultrasound machine! 🎉

This latest addition allows us to provide even more accurate, efficient, and comfortable imaging for our patients. With enhanced clarity and advanced technology, we’re continuing our commitment to delivering the highest standard of care.

After 10 years of reliable service, our previous ultrasound machine is being returned to the supplier. We’re proud that some of its parts will be repurposed and sent to Nepal, where they’ll continue to support healthcare services in another community. 🌏💙

Winner of the National Award for Emergency Response and Healthcare

The Twizel Medical Centre team are the recipients of this year’s National Award for Emergency Response and Healthcare, in recognition of their clinical leadership and coordinated emergency response to a high-impact multi-casualty bus collision near Lake Pukaki. This award recognises distinguished individuals, groups, or organisations within healthcare and emergency services who demonstrate excellence in the acute management and care of road crash patients.

On the 18th of July 2024 at approximately 8:30 AM, emergency services and local healthcare teams responded to a major incident where two busses carrying around 100 Chinese tourists crashed on an icy portion of State Highway 8 between Lake Tekapo and Twizel. Among the respondents included the Twizel Medical Centre PRIME (Primary Response in Medical Emergency) team.

As a service, PRIME operates as part of New Zealand’s rural emergency care network and involves specially trained rural clinicians to ensure patients receive timely care when traditional ambulance services may be geographically limited.

“Through collaboration between primary care teams, ambulance services, and the wider health system, the PRIME program continues to enhance the safety and resilience of rural communities by bringing skilled emergency care closer to home,” Chairman of the High Country Health Ltd Board trading as Twizel Medical Centre, Simon Williamson said.
