Dear Mangawhai Community. On Thursday afternoon 29th May, we are looking for young adults (15 - 30) for our daughter to practice a skill called retinoscopy. She is a 1st year optometry student with an assessment coming up on Friday. If you are able to help us out we are offering a free full eye exam with regular optometrist Mike Stevens. Sorry to our patients old and new but we will be closed from Wednesday 28th June until Monday 7th August 2023. We will be visiting elderly and unwell family in Europe and have not been able to secure any professional cover.
If you need urgent eye care assistance during this time the nearest optometrists are in Warkworth or Whangarei.

Update2: Managed to clear enough to get a car out. Cove Road from Waipu to Mangawhai (otherwise known as SH1B) is passable with care. Some trees down at the side and a couple of small slips so expect to come around a bed with a truck on your side of the road! If we get the heavy rain tonight as expected there could be more slips so take care out there.

We are not going to open Tuesday 14th due to the risk of Cove road getting blocked by slips or trucks! Hopefully we’ll be back to it for Wednesday. Sorry for any inconvenience caused!

Update: Monday lunch time. Have to clear my driveway at home to be able to get cars in and out! So will be closed tomorrow Tuesday 14th as well!

Due to the weather we will be close Monday 13th for sure. We’ll see how the weather does tomorrow to decide on Tuesday. If you have an appointment booked with us for Monday we will be in contact with you as soon as we can acces our computer system. Which might take a while as we are without power both at home and work. Stay safe out there.
