A wee vignette to wrap up the working week ❤️

“A vignette refers to a small grouping of decorative objects, which can make a beautiful personal statement in a room. The purpose of a vignette is two-fold: to create an eye-catching pop of interest, and to showcase your favourite treasures.

Creating vignettes around the house is such a therapeutic way to spend some spare time. Not only does it keep everyone guessing where you’ve moved their stuff, but inadvertently the space gets cleaned (dusting’s not my favourite thing to do) as well as creating a special moment until it’s time to create a new one. It’s also a great way to test how observant your husband and kids are 👌

and just like that I’m 40❤️ Feeling okay about it too👌

I’ve never been very good at embracing getting older, but as most of us know, time waits for no one!

It’s always important to stop and reflect, and I know I’ve posted about this before, but when I was 35 I couldn’t shake this crazy idea of leaving a career and job I loved to try my luck at becoming an Interior Designer.

I didn’t want to look back at 40 and think “What if?”

As I sit here on a Tuesday afternoon, working away on a variety of client projects, I’m so proud of myself.

There have been so many ups and downs, so many challenges to work through, but equally so many successes.
Even if it hadn’t worked out, yes I would have been disappointed, but I would have known.

Memento mori is something I reflect on each and everyday. It translates to “Remember you must die.”
Morbid - Yes!
Motivating - Hell Yes!
It’s the only thing we are guaranteed in this short life of ours. Get out there and live your best life (whatever that may be) even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone.

I promise you won’t regret it.

Whilst working on client projects over the summer, it had become apparent that the Colourbolt working environment needed a rejig.

I love being based from our home in Mapua, just not at our dining room table!) Knowing where you are most productive, and which time of the day you need to be doing your most focused work, is so important to your wellbeing and productivity.

At this stage of our renovation journey, we have a small house (large section with loads of potential, but small living spaces,) so when thinking about a new work space, creativity had to come into play.

Result: A third of our large master bedroom is now an office!
The light is beautiful in the morning, afternoon and evening, which is essential to my mood towards work. New desk, new chair, lighting, plants, candles and storage. Based away from the kids and not within sight of any housework that may need doing 🙌

Be creative. We don’t all have the luxury of a purpose built workspace/office at home or at your place of work.
Create something that works for you and give it depth by drawing on all 5 senses. It’ll make a huge difference to your attitude towards work and your personal wellbeing.

This week marks the beginning of a new phase in our lives… all three kids are now at school 👌
It’s been a crazy busy summer balancing design work, and the school holidays, but I’m so grateful to be busy doing what I love, as well as making the most of the beautiful weather that we have been blessed with this summer. It’s now time to get stuck into some proper routine. I’m beyond excited to see 7 of my design projects reach the final stages over the next few months. It’s a really rewarding feeling when you get to see how new spaces impact your clients lives so positively 🙌🌈
2024… taking colour or the next level and I can’t wait!

It’s been an action packed year full of so many highlights and so much to be grateful for 🙏
The final emails have been sent and it’s now time to start wrapping the presents in anticipation for Santa’s arrival tonight and some much needed quality time with our kids ❤️

The year of bathroom renovations, continues 🙏 A beautiful selection of colours and finishes will see a total transformation of this client’s family bathroom, laundry and powder room. Of course it wouldn’t be a complete space without a fabulous wallpaper making an appearance 🙌 Watch this space 👀 It goes without saying, success is another space saved from a tin of white paint 🎨
Tip: Removing the colour from a flat lay allows you to check the variety of pattern and texture present 🙌

An unexpected view from the bathroom in our Māpua Reno 😍 A mixture of old and new, and colour, pattern and texture that has well and truly put the brakes on beige. We had a wee visitor leave the house recently, who looked up at me as she left and said, “Do you know that you have no white walls in your house?” Job done I say 😍

These beautiful designs are ready to adorn your home now 😍 and quickly before they start taking centre stage in mine 🌈

This project has been a labour of love for the past 12 months.

My husband and I own and run and have been putting our heart and souls into all aspects of the business since purchasing it in Oct 2022.

Over the past month we’ve finally had a bit of time to pick up the paint brushes and give it a facelift.

Using a colour palette of green and pink, our brick and mortar store, based on the beautiful Māpua Wharf, is now freshly painted and all lit up with 3 industrial pendants that we won off Trade Me, from Nelson Airport’s Hangar 3, which was demolished in 2021.

Another space injected with a bolt of colour and ready for the summer season ahead ☕️🐇

I love colour, but I have always been a stickler for white linen bedding… that was until I ran out of walls to transform in our Māpua Reno. I’ve also been reading a lot about the Danish principles of Hygge, four of which are Atmosphere, Harmony, Comfort and Shelter. When I saw this beautiful linen duvet from I knew the white linen was about to take a back seat for the foreseeable future. Check out the difference on my stories. I’m pretty pleased with the addition of some more colour, pattern and texture. For me, this space is my Hygge ☺️

“Every good thing in this world started with a dream.”

For those of you who have recently joined my colour journey and goal towards “putting the brakes on beige (and white),” welcome! It’s great to have you here for the ride.

As a child I dreamed of being a teacher. I worked hard to turn that childhood dream into a reality and spent 15 years as a primary school teacher in Wellington, at a fabulous school surrounded by the best kids, colleagues, and parent community. 15 years where I learned a lot of skills and banked a myriad of memories that I am extremely grateful for.

When I turned 35 I began dreaming about becoming an Interior Designer and I couldn’t shake it. I put my time management skills into practice and studied whilst on maternity leave with our third child. I left teaching, which was extremely hard to walk away from, started Colourbolt Interior Design, and haven’t looked back.

I love colour.
I love pattern.
I love texture.
I live and breathe it daily and to be honest always have.
And what I love most is helping people incorporate all three into their own homes.
Over the past couple of years I have met an amazing number of people and had the privilege to help them create more inspiring spaces to live in, which are a true reflection of the people they are.

Not long after we arrived in Tasman, we were thrown back into another Covid lockdown. I was in full ‘new business’ mode, working hard to establish my brand and client base, using our own home to showcase how colour can be used, and the effect that it can have on the way you live and enjoy your home. During the lockdown, we serendipitously, came across a gorgeous coffee Roastery for sale right next to our home on the idyllic Māpua Wharf. My husband resigned from his corporate job and we bought the Roastery

We have learned to embrace change and our life is complete (for the moment) 😉 We now live and breathe Interior Design and coffee on a daily basis. It’s busy, but we 100% love what we do and the life we have created here in the South Island where we grew up. A completely new direction for both of us, but one that we will be forever grateful for x
