It's been a long time between drinks but we wanted to let you know about a new online Perimenopause course our dietitian Sarah has created!

An 8-week course you can do from the comfort of your own home (and in your pjs if you want!) to help you navigate this time of transition. Sarah will be covering hormones, weight, liver health and detox, heart health, gut health, stress management and sleep over the 8 weeks...all in bite sized pieces with plenty of support, actions and tangible tools to enhance your wellbeing.

Great tip from one of our lovely retreat attendees....once you've finished your edamame beans (great source of protein, fibre and phytoestrogens) hide your chocolate in the empty edamame bag so other family members don't eat it 🙌 Brilliant!!

What a roller-coaster this event has been, but with our latest pivot we are so looking forward to being in a room of women ready to talk openly and honestly and where we are at with perimenopause and menopause.

What can you expect from the day?

So, we have some good news and some bad news with regards to our Pause with LIV wellbeing day on Sunday 27th November...

The bad news - unfortunately Niki Bezzant will not be joining us on the day to talk about her book and findings on perimenopause and beyond 😢

But the good news is that the day is still going ahead at the gorgeous Brackenridge Country Retreat, there will be workshops on Hormone Health, Nutrition, Breathwork, plus a beautiful lunch, delicious probiotic drinks, a Q and A session, connections with other lovely ladies attending AND a reduced ticket price (due to the reduced costs with Niki not presenting) 🙌

"There is a lot of argument and confusion around what menopause symptoms are. You can start feeling very overdramatic, like a total hypochondriac. I know I did." Shares Robyn Malcom in her menopause story featured in the Niki Bezzant book, This Changes Everything.

She goes on.... I said to my doctor when it was starting "Whoa what is this?" and she said " Yeah, that's menopause." I said "Oh my god. It's so full on" and she said dryly, "Yeah, yeah, I know. My grandmother shot herself in the head".

🧀🥚🍗 Ever heard of the "Protein Leverage Effect”? 🍗🥚🧀

We have a particular need for protein that will drive us to consume food until our body's appetite for protein is satisfied. Because we tend to eat more packaged and processed foods these days, that are higher in fat and sugar (and therefore the protein content is “diluted”) compared to our ancestors, we may be more likely to keep eating/feeling hungry because it takes more food to meet the amount of protein we need. Fascinating!

And it turns out perimenopausal and menopausal women may be more susceptible to this protein leverage effect…seeking out more food in order to meet our protein requirements. We tend to need ~10% more protein during this time compared to our younger adult selves…which is about the equivalent to an egg a day. But we also need a range of other macronutrients and micronutrients to fuel our body...so it's not ALL about the protein!
