Tenax Papers - Papers handmade from Phormium Tenax (N.Z. Flax or Harakeke) My wife & I are passionate about hand-making paper. Harakeke yields more fibre kg for kg than trees and is sustainably harvested. We also recycle fibres.

Oh, we are in the process of revising our pricelist (we have held our prices for almost 4 years) We will honour our pricing for any orders placed prior to our posting the new pricelist. We are in the process of restocking so there are gaps and may be delays in supply but we are working on it. Have a happy (belated) New Year.

Hi Everyone, we are getting into the swing again though the weather has been trying to break up our flow. Anyway as facebook tried to remove us for apparently some copyright content issue and the fluffy-headed way their business meta platform works (making Homer Simpson look sharp) Kat and I would like to invite you to communicate with us via old style e-mail, avoiding Fb entirely. To that end our e-mail address is: tenaxpapers@gmail.com we look forward to hearing from you soon.

We have managed two harvests in the last 2 weeks, one has been cooked and rinsed and in the process of being beaten ... the other needs processing through the chaff cutter in preparation for cooking. So we should have our first batch of harakeke papers (made with the new deckle) coming out of the vat tomorrow? guess that depends on beating and bleaching time I will feel much better actually getting papers made to fill back orders. Hoping to managed more harvests soon. Also hope to get to the kind people who offered us supplies of flax, circumstances have held us up but we intend to get to you !! Thanks to everyone ...

Well isn't that typical. Weather has been hot (30+C) and dry. We have interest and some orders for harakeke papers. Our health is back to functional. We got the chaff cutter re-assembled to chop a batch of flax and the skies open up ... nice drop in temp, but no way we can prep the flax for the cooker, cast iron does NOT like being wet! This year we are looking forward to getting our driveway and apron concreted and either a garage or carport space so we can work under cover...

Hi Everyone, just FYI we have a health issue going on this week. Labour weekend then hopefully a wedding anniversary next week ... normal service will resume after that. Thanks to those who responded to our post about flax offcuts - we will be back to you soon. Thanks all.

While I am here ... are there any (local) harakeke weavers near me in Marton? I am still slowly recovering from shoulder surgery to my primary arm and need to find a source of flax to prepare fibre for papermaking when our weather settles. Normally I harvest myself but until the shoulder settles down a bit more I do not want to be out with a sharp knife ... please if I can take your flax butts off your hands get in contact!!

OMG what will facebook do next to make live more confusing! Duh, sorry forgot fb must be run by Homer Simpson's idiot brother. Anyway - Spent time in the studio yesterday and today preparing fibre. It was a late start waiting for the steady rain to let up (yesterday) and another today waiting for the wind to settle to zephyr like levels. Looks like its going to be a busy weekend making paper before work both days.

12/07/2021

Well it has been a busy weekend and will continue this week as we endeavour to catch up with an orders backlog. Thank you for your patience ...

Our apologies to all our customers, this week has been challenging. We were excited to get a number of orders on Monday morning, but that was capped by an urgent call about my Mum's health. So I was in Wellington the rest of Monday till Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately she passed Wednesday night. We are endeavouring to process all orders as fast as we can. Again we apologise for this disruption.

We just realised the phone number on our current pricelists is wrong! Well it wasn't when published, but since then we changed the phone (and the SIM) ... so ... the NEW number is .... 022 435 9804

Oh what a wonderful new year .... our summer switching from hot and humid, or blustery windy or cool and rainy sometimes within an hour :-S it is making things a bit difficult to plan our mornings, days or weeks. Hoping for a good straight week of fine settled weather so we can get to some major and long delayed projects.
