We’re winding down for the year, and this Friday 19th December is our last day of work before our staff go on their break. We’ll be back on Monday 5th January and answering any messages sent in the break then.

Welcoming Dr Nat Fushida-Hardy to Wairarapa Skin Clinic!

Nat is our new doctor working alongside Dr Cath Becker. Nat has an impressive academic background; holding not only a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, but also a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with Distinction. The level of knowledge and commitment to achieve a Bachelor of Medicine at distinction level is remarkable - she’s probably too humble to tell you, but Nat is one incredibly smart woman.

Nat joins us after she did a 3 month placement with Wairarapa Skin Clinic in 2023. She loved it so much she knew she wanted to come back, and now in 2025 is on her skin cancer training pathway. Anyone who meets Nat will know she is a vibrant and special addition to our team, and we feel very excited for her future at the clinic ✨

Oh, and - Nat is also Dr Tom Becker’s partner! Having met in the Masterton Hospital wards in 2022, the two are now both working towards skin cancer specialisation at Wairarapa Skin Clinic, like a modern day power couple 🫶🩺

Thank you to artist Kirsty Gardiner () for our clinic’s newest artwork ‘Echoes of Dawn’. The clay sculpture was handcrafted as a tribute to the extinct huia, and we feel very fortunate to have Kirsty’s incredible talent showcased on our walls. We think her own words summarise the sculpture far better than we ever could:

‘This work is a tribute to the extinct huia. Constructed in clay and assembled after firing, the sculpture features a hand-built bird seated in an ornate nest with cherished eggs.

‘Echoes of Dawn’ invites reflection on loss, memory and ecological fragility. The echo of dawn is seen in form, shadow, and gold - but not sound.’

The multi-tasking sunscreen is here ☀️ just in time for the Spring sunshine and Summer right around the corner 🌸🌴

The new SolarCare B3 Defence SPF50 combines broad spectrum SPF protection with niacinamide at 5% - which just so happens to be the two ingredients we are always recommending for skin cancer protection and reduction! Our clinic continues to grow! Dr Karl de Silva is joining the team. He is a dynamite of a doctor, with years of experience working in obstetrics & gynaecology at one of the busiest hospitals in New Zealand. Now based at Masterton Medical to complete his GP training, Dr de Silva is utilising his surgical skills with us at the Lansdowne clinic every Monday. Those who have met Karl know just how great he is, and we are incredibly fortunate to have him.

We are excited to introduce Merryn as the newest member of our team! Merryn is a highly skilled dermoscopist nurse that will be taking on skin checks and consultations, as well as assisting in minor surgeries. She has completed several post-graduate qualifications in skin cancer and dermoscopy, and we are truly lucky to work alongside her.

Merryn has been commuting to Wellington from Greytown for the last 15 years- so both the clinic and Merryn are equally thrilled to have her join the Greytown and Masterton clinics.

All of us at Wairarapa Skin Clinic are proud of Dr Cath Becker’s husband (and our co-owner) Dr Tony Becker for his incredible achievement in being awarded a Distinguished Fellowship from the Royal New Zealand College of General Practice. This award is the highest award the College offers and we couldn’t think of anyone more deserving. Congratulations Tony!

Our team is growing, our work is growing, our doors are opening for longer - we are now open Mondays at our main clinic in Lansdowne AND we are expanding to a premises in Greytown! While our Lansdowne clinic has had their hours extended since start of April, from the 29th April we will be at Five Rivers Clinic in Greytown on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays to make that trip a little easier for our South Wairarapa folks 🌱

Welcoming Dr. Jenna Langschmidt ✨

We are so excited to have Jenna joining us until August. Our own ‘pocket rocket’, Jenna moved here after graduating and training in the UK, and has been working in plastic surgery for many years in both NZ and UK. She been accepted into the Advanced Plastic Surgery Training Programme starting in August at Hutt Hospital, and is working at Wairarapa Skin Clinic until then. Say hello next time you see her; we’re lucky to have her!
