☀️ It’s pretty warm out there, Wairarapa!!
With high temperatures and warm evenings offering little relief, it’s important to stay cool, hydrated and check in on one another.

Here are a few simple reminders:
💧 Drink water often, even if you don’t feel thirsty
🧢 Keep cool – seek shade, wear light clothing, and use fans or air-conditioning where possible
🏠 Keep indoor spaces cool by closing curtains during the day (if you don’t have air-conditioning) open windows and doors for air circulation
☀️ If you’re outside having fun in the sun, remember to slip, slop, slap and wrap
👥 Look out for whānau, neighbours and friends, especially older people and young children
🐾 Don’t forget your pets – make sure they have plenty of fresh water, shade, and a cool place to rest. Avoid walking dogs during the hottest parts of the day
🤗 Take care, look after each other, and stay safe in the heat ☀️

☀️ It’s getting hot out there in sunny Wairarapa. Make sure you and your whānau are keeping cool. Check out these simple tips:

🕛 Avoid going outside during the hottest time of the day.
💧Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol and caffeine.
👕 Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light coloured cotton clothes.

It's especially important to stay out of the sun. Where possible, avoid extreme physical exertion and ensure pets and people are not left alone in stationary cars.

📍 If you live in the region or have recently visited, please check the locations of interest page and follow public health advice: http://spr.ly/61897v6H1

🛑 Measles spreads *very easily*. If you're feeling unwell, stay home and call Healthline on 0800 611 116.

💙 Immunisation is your best protection. Two doses of the MMR vaccine protects 99% of people.

🔵 Booking options for getting a vaccine can be found on this page: info.health.nz/immunisations/booking-a-vaccine

✅ No appointment? No problem! Many clinics and some pharmacies offer walk-in vaccinations.

🔍 Symptoms to watch for: high fever / cough, runny nose, sore red eyes / rash starting on the face, spreading down the body.

📞 Suspect measles? If you plan to visit a doctor's clinic, or urgent care, please make sure you call ahead before visiting. This enables the clinic to prepare and take the right precautions to protect others from catching measles.

If you still have questions, reach out to your usual doctor/GP, Hauora Māori or Pacific health provider. You can also call the Vaccination Helpline on 0800 28 29 26. They're open from 8.30am-9pm, Mon-Fri and 8.30am - 2pm, Sat and Sun.

Kenepuru Birthing Unit is a calm and welcoming space for whānau across our region.

The environment supports birthing in comfort and confidence, surrounded by care. Outdoor areas allow space to move and breathe while in labour, and free parking makes visits easier for loved ones.

The unit is available to pregnant people with healthy low-risk pregnancies wanting a relaxed experience close to home. If your baby is born in Wellington Hospital, Kenepuru can still be your place to rest and recover, with single rooms and private ensuites.

Our team is proud to offer a setting where birth feels personal and peaceful.

Visit during our upcoming Open Day on Saturday 29 November, between 11.30am and 1.30pm, to see the space and meet the people who make it special.
