✨ Another very busy weekend here!

Here are some key updates to start your week:

🔹 No more orders: we can’t take any new orders.
🔹 Website shop closed: you can view items, but we can't take anymore online orders.
🔹 Best way to buy: visit our showroom (weekends are best!)

The showroom is limited, but we’re still producing! Fresh pieces are coming out of the kiln every week, and we restock ahead of Saturday for the widest range. We’ll share photos here so you can see before making the trip.

📅 We remain open until late October.
👀 Factory tours continue daily at 11:30am.
🪑 We're not selling equipment or display items (yet). We’ll post about those closer to the end of October.

💡 The big question: Can’t the business be sold?
We’d love that, but our owner-operators are ready to retire. If you know a prospective buyers, DM us and we’ll connect you with our General Manager.

📩 Old school service, old school pots
From the way we throw clay to the way we handle emails, we’ve always been hands-on. Every pot is made by people, not machines.. and our customer service is just as manual!! That means that in periods of high demand, our response is slow (Deb is doing her best, currently working through enquiries prior to 14-August). Tip.. the phone is best if you’re ready to purchase. We answer when we can.

High Demand Update: we can no longer take orders.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us through this evolving situation as we move toward closing the Morris & James pottery.

➡️ No New Orders

We are no longer able to take any more orders. Since announcing our closure, demand has been unprecedented. Every piece is hand-thrown and glazed by our skilled team, and the time and care each one requires means we simply don’t have the scope or manpower to take on more orders in the remaining months ahead.

Deb is still working through the existing email queue - if you emailed us before today about an order, we’ll get back to you.

We are unable to process any new online enquiries at this stage as we need to focus on production and what we have committed to.

➡️ Stock levels

Due to the number of visitors we’ve welcomed in recent weeks, stock levels are currently very limited.

At this stage, we expect to remain open until late October.

➡️ Best way to buy

New pieces are coming out of the kiln regularly, and the best way to buy is to visit us on the weekend. We restock the showroom ahead of Saturday for the widest range. We’ll also aim to post photos of what’s available so you can see before making the trip.

➡️ Enquiries & Emails

If you’ve emailed us before today, we’ll get back to you. We are unable to process any new enquiries at this stage via email or Facebook, as we need to focus on production and what we have committed to.

➡️ Factory Tours

Tours continue daily at 11:30am - we’d love to see you there.

Thank You 🙏

We deeply appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate this busy and unusual time.

An update on all things Morris & James....

As you can see from these photos, our showroom is looking the most sparse it’s ever been in our 47 years of business. We’re sharing this so those travelling from afar know what to expect, and to reassure you there’s still time to take home a piece of Morris & James.

We expect to remain open for at least another 2 months (possibly 3) before we close the doors for good. Pottery production is still underway, and new pieces will continue to make their way onto the showroom floor. We’re also still taking orders.

🛒 Website orders: Please allow up to 20 days for delivery, as many items are now being made to order: www.morrisandjames.co.nz

📧 Sales Enquiries: We know many of you are still waiting for a reply from sales@morrisandjames.co.nz. Our inbox is overflowing with the phone and showroom running non-stop. We’re working hard this week to catch up. Please rest assured we’re not ignoring you - if you haven’t heard from us yet, it simply means we haven’t made it to your email in the queue.

📖 Ordering from the catalogue: With the showroom looking a little bare, the next best way to browse is through our catalogue. It features our full production range (the pieces we make regularly) and excludes recent designs and one-off works.

View the catalogue here:

For pricing, shipping, or availability, email sales@morrisandjames.co.nz or call 09 422 7116.

We’re still open 9am – 5pm daily, and factory tours continue at 11:30am each day. If you’ve been meaning to visit, we’re still here! If we don't have the items you're looking for, we can assist with orders.

Thanks Sam Jolie for sharing a photo of bowls gifted to staff at Christmas and signed by Anthony Morris.

That would have been before 2009 when a team of craftspeople, decorators, and managers came together to buy the business from the Morris family. As owner-operators, they continued the Morris & James legacy with the same passion, skill, and care that had shaped it from the start.

Memory Lane - the bakeware!

If you have one of these beloved Morris & James bakeware pieces, consider yourself lucky - and treasure it. Over the years, we received many requests to bring them back, but unfortunately, we were unable to produce them reliably.

The Matakana clay we use is wonderfully sturdy and rustic, making it perfect for large-scale pots. However, it can be difficult to work with for smaller items. It tends to have a mind of its own, often leading to cracking or warping during the firing process.

Thanks Carolyn Mcnae for the photo :)

Over the years, we’ve loved seeing how our pieces have found their way into so many different homes, gardens, and lives. Nearly 48 years in business as a local, commercial pottery is something worth celebrating! 🎉

Whether you’ve got a vintage piece from the early days or something you picked up just last week, we’d love to see your beloved Morris & James treasures.

Let’s fill our feed with colour, creativity, and memories. Pop your photo in the comments and tell us what makes your piece so special to you 💛📸 We'd love to see it!

The showroom has ever looked so empty! Thank you to everyone who has visited over the past two weeks - it’s been overwhelming in the best way.

A few updates as we head into the week:

🌀 Pottery production is still underway for the next few weeks. New stock will continue to trickle into the showroom as pieces are thrown, glazed and fired, using the last of our clay.
💌 We are still working through a rather long queue of emails and orders via sales@morrisandjames.co.nz - thank you for your patience.
📦 Shipping and dispatch are still moving, though some delays may occur due to high volume.
🟡 Our seconds area is almost empty (see captions). If you’ve been hoping for a discounted piece, now’s the time - these one-off items are not repeated due to unique faults or imperfections.
🛒 Yes, we are still taking orders! So if you’ve missed out on something please email sales@morrisandjames.co.nz to find out what's possible.
🖥️ We are also still accepting online orders at www.morrisandjames.co.nz

Lastly, please be kind to our hardworking sales team. They’ve been incredible, fielding huge crowds and heartfelt stories, all while processing the reality of our closure.

While it’s been a whirlwind, we’re deeply grateful. Every visit, message, and memory shared reminds us just how much Morris & James has meant to so many. We’re still here for a little while longer - making, glazing, packing, and reminiscing with you all. Thank you for being part of this last chapter.

Thank you for an unforgettable weekend! What felt like a moment in history unfolded right here, with an unprecedented number of people through our doors.

We’re incredibly grateful for your support and patience as we scrambled to bring in extra hands, including helper-husbands and even a few familiar faces from our past team!

Today, things are a little quieter. We’re catching our breath, restocking shelves, and continuing our last production runs behind the scenes.

Email and order enquiries: We know many of you are waiting for replies. Please rest assured we’re working through the queue as quickly as we can, and expect to make good headway on these this week. Thanks for bearing with us.

If you live further afield and wish to enquire about any item, please email us at sales@morrisandjames.co.nz or call 09 422 7116
