877 Safety Aiders across Hawke's Bay means 877 people ready to support their workmates when it matters most. These skills don't just stay at work - they travel home, to sports clubs, and throughout our communities.

On Anzac Day, we reflect on the spirit of mateship that lives on in our communities.

Recently, Karen, Peter and Anthony led a Safety Aider workshop, equipping local teams with skills to support each other through tough times.

These free workshops build stronger workplaces across Hawke's Bay.
We will remember them.

Maggie Higgins isn't just breaking barriers as a plumbing apprentice - she's running 100kms in May for tradie’s mental health because mental health in the trades is something that’s not spoken about often enough. Maggie wants to help break the barriers and make the trades a safe place for everyone to have a voice.

“Mental health awareness is incredibly important, especially in the trades industry, where the culture often discourages open conversations about struggles. It’s time to normalise the “awkward conversation” and encourage people to speak up about their mental health. This run is about pushing people to take that first step and start talking”.

Every dollar raised will go to Mates4Life and Spark That Chat, two local organisations dedicated to su***de prevention and mental health support in the workforce.

Our facilitators Peter and Anthony running a Safety Aider workshop with the Gemco team. These sessions equip staff with practical skills to spot when someone's struggling and have those conversations that actually make a difference.

Feedback from the team shows these aren't just "work skills" - they're life skills that travel home with people, creating support networks across our community.

Nothing beats connecting over kai and having those real conversations. That's why we bring our Kai & Kōrero to community events.

Being part of these local gatherings isn't about pushing messages - it's about creating spaces where looking out for each other just becomes part of what we do. Whether it's at work or weekend sports, it all comes down to the same thing - people checking in on people.

Our team recently delivered an Awareness Talk workshop to over 50 staff members at Centralines Hawke's Bay. Facilitators Tyson and Karen led meaningful discussions about recognising signs of distress and appropriate responses.

The session concluded with Kai & Kōrero, creating space for participants to connect and reflect on the workshop content in a supportive environment.

Thank you to Centralines for prioritising workplace wellbeing and investing in these vital skills for their team.

We were honoured to be part of TimberSpan's Grand Opening celebration last week, with our Operations Manager, Tyson, sharing a few words about looking out for each other in the workplace.

Nothing beats connecting over kai and meaningful kōrero, especially at milestones like this for established Hawke's Bay businesses. These opportunities to talk openly about supporting our colleagues create workplaces where everyone feels valued.

Thanks to the TimberSpan team for including wellbeing conversations as part of your celebration.
