Never in my life have the words ‘detox’ and ‘cleanse’ come up in everyday conversation, as they have over the last few months. And these are with people who have no idea that I am a nutritionist! I feel like the universe is sending a crystal clear message to humanity, it’s time to sort out our health.

Most of us are well aware that what we eat most days is nothing like what nature intended, yet we continue on pretending we will sort it out another day, when we are not so busy… which never happens.

Like so many others, if you are hearing the whisper (or roar) that now is the time to clean up your diet and detox your body, spring is the perfect time to get started. Stop procrastinating, stop making excuses, let’s get started.

I’ve perused the Metagenics website and ALL detox products are in stock right now! Yay. This wasn’t the case last year and it was very frustrating I can tell you. If you have a couple of hundred dollars that you are willing to invest in your health, I strongly recommend the Metagenics detox programme (or one of). I do them regularly and it blows me away how much better I feel and I’m pretty darn healthy as it is 💁‍♀️ They are easy, gentle and extremely effective.

DM me if you’d like a detox questionnaire emailed to you, to determine if you actually need one, which type is best for you, or if you have any questions. I can give you a guide on what to eat and what not too as well as other useful info and tips.

If you do not have the funds right now for a complete detox programme, here are some simple, yet effective detoxing tips, whatever your budget:

For 3-30 days try one or all of these things:

1. Drink water! More than you think. Two glasses on waking, two between meals. Drink, drink drink. You can add CMD mineral drops or chlorophyll if you like, but water on its own is easy and free.

2. Skip the odd meal. Now this can be hard if you skip the wrong one for your body type but if you’re an existing client, go to your notes about your body type and see which meal you can skip or make small. Giving your gut a little rest is very cleansing.

3. Go alcohol and packet food free. These can cause inflammation in the body, which causes toxicity.

4. Get out in nature. Swim in the ocean (or just get your feet in), walk in the forest, or put feet on the earth for 15mins a day. Do not be so afraid of the sun! Expose your eyes to it during sunrise and sunset. Trust me, you’ll notice the difference.

5. Consciously breathe. This means doing something that forces more air into and out of your lungs than you normally do. Long slow inhales and exhales, breath of fire is my personal favourite. Go and research conscious breathing and try a technique that stands out to you.

6. Ditch the news and negative people. Go into hiding if you have a too 😂

7. Epsom salt baths.

8. Any form of exercise that gets your heart pumping and encourages a bit of sweat.

9. Clean your house, closet, pantry, desk etc. Having a clean living/working space is said to help clear your mind which is a detox all of its own. Or get out in the garden.

10. Self love practices. There is no better motivator to take care of your health than when you love yourself enough to understand you deserve it. Self love is critical to any health and wellness journey and it may be more challenging than you think ❤️

Many of my clients have expressed to me how unwell they feel wearing a mask. If you struggle with them for any reason, you have every right by law to not wear one.

The following information is from the Disabled Persons Assembly NZ where you can request by email an exemption card for not wearing a mask. But as it clearly states, you are not required by law to have one or even show it in public.

When do you need a face covering?

It is now mandatory to wear face masks/coverings on public transport, on flights, and if you are a customer or an employee involving customer contact such as at a supermarket, pharmacy or petrol station.

If you have a disability or health condition and you can’t wear a face covering safely or comfortably, you are exempt from wearing one.

Some people may feel more comfortable showing something official that says they don’t have to wear a face covering, so the Ministry of Health has designed an exemption card that people can use.

If anyone asks why you are not wearing a face covering, you can show them the card. You don’t need to show this card to public transport operators like bus drivers, but you can if you want to.

This card has been developed by the Ministry of Health specifically for those who cannot wear face coverings safely or comfortably due to a disability or health condition. The use of this card is self-regulated and decided upon by the individual. However, the Ministry of Health encourage people to do the right thing and only use this Exemption Card if you need to.

If you have a disability or health condition and you can’t wear a face covering safely or comfortably and would like an exemption card sent to you, please email info@dpa.org.nz

Our body is capable of amazing things, including fighting off infections and healing from disease.

The first step is realising this to be true, the second step is giving your body what it needs💧☀️ 🏃‍♀️ 🥗 🍣 🧘‍♀️

Your health is like a garden. It has to be cultivated and cared for daily. If you neglect your garden, weeds of chronic disease will eventually take over.

No one else is to blame for an overgrown garden, but the gardener.

Beware the promise of a quick fix.

There is no miracle cure, magic bullet, shot, pill, potion or lotion to create optimal health. It takes time and consistent deliberate effort.

Chronic disease* doesn’t happen overnight. And you can’t heal it overnight.

But you can heal it.

You have to stop sowing the seeds of disease and pull the weeds—your bad habits—and sow the seeds of health…

Fresh air, sunshine, a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, daily exercise, faith, courage, love, connection and forgiveness.

These things will strengthen your immune system and help your body repair, regenerate, detoxify and heal.

Sow good seeds and you will reap a harvest of health!

*Chronic disease (obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, autoimmune disease, cancer, etc.) along with smoking, daily alcohol and drug use make you vulnerable to infectious disease. All the more reason to take back your power and take control of your life and your health.

🙌 to England!

England have decided that the potential risks outweigh the benefits for children receiving the 💉

Healthy 12-15 year olds are no longer recommended to have it 👏

I hope NZ follows.

It is so refreshing to finally read something that I completely agree with in these confusing times. And believe me, I’ve done a lot of reading. I am a scientist after all, we just can’t help ourselves 👩‍🔬

This whole situation does not make sense, from a scientific perspective anyway. And in my opinion, because it doesn’t, I am personally being cautious before making any decisions that may affect my long term health.

If anyone is feeling confused, conflicted, upset or just wants to chat to someone who will not judge, please feel free to PM me for a private chat.

And after that, go and spend some time in the sun, feet on the earth and away from your device!

People often tell me that they don’t want to see a nutritionist because they feel it will be too much change to make and that they are just not ready.

This is so sad to hear as no matter how complicated someone’s health history is, changing one or two simple things can make the world of difference!

I offer my clients a lot of information, but I always tell them to grab a highlighter and pick one or two things to start today.

For many it is simply to drink more water, eat more protein at breakfast or to change up what they eat at 3pm!

Starting your health journey doesn’t have to take an entire life overhaul to make an impact. But starting something, is a lot more progress than not starting at all.

It’s that time of year again where everyone I’m seeing is dehydrated! The weather has cooled down and we are all forgetting to drink enough water.

We still need to consume plenty of water in winter, as the humidity in the air is low, which literally dries us out.

You can drink it warm or as herbal teas, runny soups, bone broths and miso to mix it up.

Signs you might be dehydrated are:

Headaches, low energy, dry lips and skin, dry cuticles, bad breath, body odour, constipation, impaired digestion, back pain, joint pain, poor immunity, skin conditions, such as acne.

Drink two glasses of room temp water as soon as you get out of bed.

30ml x kg of body weight per day is your general rule.

Adding concentrated mineral drops can help with absorption.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are also high in water as well as the minerals we need.

We all know how important it is to drink water. But sometimes we just need to be given a friendly reminder 🙋‍♀️

Oh and alcohol doesn’t count, unfortunately 🥴

Eat Yourself Well

Hi, I’m Tina! I am a qualified Nutritionist with a passion for helping people ‘eat themselves well’. My approach is to simplify healthy eating and offer tailored advice that is specific and unique to you and your health concerns.

I am a busy mum of two, well three if you include the dog, who loves to walk, do yoga and read and research everything to do with nutrition. I am in my 40’s so have had my share of ups and downs, weight gains and losses, injuries, bouts of depression, hormonal issues, the list goes on… I can tell you through personal experience, all of the above can be greatly improved with nutrition!

I am a scientist at heart, having obtained both a Bachelor Degree in Science (majoring in Biochemistry and Microbiology), and a Diploma in Nutritional Sciences (which allows me to practice as a Clinical Nutritionist). What I offer my clients is a scientific approach to my assessments and recommendations. I am an analytical thinker with an evidenced based approach but I also believe that ‘nature gets it right’.
