Meet Nathan!

Nathan has been a very active member with DSRHB for the past few years, and has participated in all kinds of events and programmes, including: DSRHB's Basketball session with the Hawks, swimming, Magpies Captain's Run, Wheelchair Basketball, Boccia, Basketball for All, and the Halberg Games. Nathan is a tough player, and won't let anything stop him (even if his glasses are knocked off). Nathan's determination helped him reached the semifinal in last year's Boccia tournament at the Halberg Games. Here is a bit more about Nathan:

His favourite thing about being a member of DSRHB:
That I’m able to be included in lots of different sports with other people with disabilities.

His favourite event/sport:
The wheelchair races at the Halberg games. 👨‍🦽‍➡️

His favourite moment so far:
Playing basketball with the group on Thursdays. 🏀

His favourite memory of the Halberg Games:
Waiting at the start line for when the gun goes off for the running race that I do in my wheelchair.

This year he is looking forward to most:
The opening ceremony and getting to see all the different people that are there.

The event/programme he is looking forward to most is:
Being able to do sports that I’m able to do like basketball and Boccia . 🏀🏐

Thanks, Nathan, for being such an awesome member with DSRHB; we hope that you have as much fun at the Halberg Games as you did last year!

You all made a splash surfing last weekend at Waimarama Beach!

The amount of smiles on and off the beach were really awesome. It was to see you all having fun with each other and your supporters on the beach, in the surf, playing badminton & boccia, and even enjoying the playground with the massive flying fox.

Thank you to Halberg Foundation, Hawkes Bay Boardriders NZ, Waimarama Surf Life Saving Club, Blind Low Vision NZ, & our many additional volunteers to make this such a wonderful event for all of our surfers!

Hope to see you all at the next one 🏄🏼‍♂️🏄🏽‍♀️

DSRHB's All-Abilities Multi Sport Day was a huge hit (again!)

All thanks to the over 50 participants (and the parents and supporters that joined in too) and to the many other organizations who took part, without you all, this event would not have been possible!

Thank you to:

, Hawke's Bay Hockey, Volleyball Hawke's Bay, Tū Mātau Ora, Pumas Softball Academy, , Clive Tennis Club, Hawke's Bay Netball, , Sport Hawke's Bay, Blind Low Vision NZ, and Rapid Relief Team NZ

Without your support this event would not have been able be as great as it was for our community.

It was great to see everyone trying new things and improving their skills in so many activities!

Be on the look out for DSRHB's next big community event: DSRHB's All-Abilities Amazing Race coming this summer!

No Limits Netball has just wrapped up for Term 1 and we couldn’t be prouder.

It’s incredible to see the skills developing across the court - not just from our regular players who have been part of this fantastic programme run by Hawke's Bay Netball for the past two years, but also from new members who jump in and give it a go.

The growth in confidence, teamwork and game awareness has been awesome to watch.

Ka rawe to all of you. We love your enthusiasm, your energy and the way you back yourselves each week.

Making a Splash with Keilani 💦

This term we kicked off our Swimsation Start to Swim programme with the amazing team at Flaxmere Pools.

It’s been wonderful to see Keilani fully enjoying her swim lessons and gaining confidence in the water. Swimming is not only fun, it’s also a gentle way to build strength, and it’s already become a highlight of her week.

We love seeing our members try something new and discover the joy of movement. If you’d like to explore swimming or other DSRHB programmes, head to our website to find out more and join us.

Boccia has been a staple in the DSRHB calendar since we launched Gotcha Boccia back in 2023.

Three years on, we’re still going strong with a regular crew meeting twice a month to practise, have a match against each other, and fine tune their skills. The focus, strategy and friendly rivalry make every session a good one.

Each term we welcome new faces as our Boccia whānau continues to grow, and we love seeing players build both confidence and connection.

This year we’re especially looking forward to the interregional lower North Island tournament in June alongside our Parafed and Disability Sport friends.

We are super grateful to Roni and the team from 's local club for their dedication and heart for our members.

We recently enjoyed two fabulous days on the water, filled with laughter, encouragement and teamwork. For some of our athletes it was a chance to build on previous experience, and for others it was their very first time out on the water.

Seeing confidence grow with every paddle stroke is always a highlight. It simply wouldn’t be possible without the support of passionate leaders and volunteers who create such a safe, welcoming environment for everyone.

If you’d like to experience opportunities like this and be part of our growing DSRHB community, visit our website to register and come along. www.disabilitysporthb.co.nz

Wow, everyone! So many of you showed up yesterday and really gave it your best SHOT 🏀 It was so great to see all of you working together and seeing our first full court 5-on-5 scrimmage (it made me tired just watching you all run around 😅). It was also so wonderful to hear from some of you about how important this DSRHB basketball programme is to you and how many of you look forward to it every week! Looking forward to seeing what Coach Jordan has in store for you next week.

Hope to see you all (and maybe even some more new faces) next week!
