✨Member Spotlight: Meet Rocco✨

Over the past year, Rocco has participated in Adaptive Football, All Wheels with Bay Skate, Basketball for All, All Abilities Multi Sport Day, Hawke's Bay Team Member for the 2025 Halberg Games, Basketball Session with the Hawks, Magpies Captains Run, and DSRHB's Wheelchair Basketball Weekend with Basketball NZ. Rocco is a competitive force with a positive attitude, always keen for a laugh in between competing his hardest for himself or for his team. Rocco is a consistent competitor at DSRHB and other local events around Hawke's Bay, and it is always great to see his growth and ever improving athleticism.

"It's fun and it always includes others. It includes a lot of people, and I get to make new friends.'

Tuesday's weather finally held off for us to have Kick-tastic day with Alisa from Central Football Hawke's Bay to lead us in our first Adaptive Football session for the term! Our members really enjoyed the mini games and team match to end the session. We hope everyone is looking forward to more drills and mini games next week as much as we are! See you next week ⚽🏃

Halfway through our Kia Kaha - All Wheels Sessions at and our DSRHB riders are really getting comfortable taking on different challenges of the skatepark! Thanks to Kyle, Ginny, & Cole and the rest of Bay Skate Crew for helping our riders and modding some ramps together just for us. We are off this Monday, but we'll be back ready to "ramp" it up again on 3 November. See all of you DSRHB riders then!

It was great to see our athletes having a blast at Hockey with Hawke's Bay Hockey! Our instructors Connor & Connor did a great job of helping us learn how to hold our sticks and how to keep the hockey ball on the toe of our sticks for better control. Everyone looked great working their way through minefield, dodging their ball from hitting the cones. Playing rob the nest was a blast, and my team is coming in hot with a better game plan for next time! Hope to see you all tomorrow for another great session!

Thank you to Meg & Michelle from CanBead Hawke's Bay for providing such a fun and relaxing beading workshop for DSRHB members! Your insight and teaching helped our members craft some beautiful jewellery, decorations, and memories! The final products look so professional, and store bought. Ka pai to our members that worked so how to make such charming pieces!

Run, Jump, Throw Athletics with , at Mitre 10 Park, was off to a hot start this week! Starting with a wild run warm-up, practicing jumping a mountain, practicing over throws (including vortexes!), and finishing with a sprint to the finish! It was great to see everyone push their limits especially on the high jump and the final sprint. Great work DSRHB crew! We'll see you all next on 30 October.

Join DSRHB at the 13th Annual Harcourts Multiple Steps for Multiple Sclerosis, NEXT WEEK, on Wednesday, 22nd October 2025, at Marine Parade, Napier. DSRHB will be supporting this inclusive and adaptive event, highlighted by their 5k Walk/Fun along Marine Parade. You can check out a full list of what is happening at the event and how to register below, hope to see you there!

This evening walk/run brings our community together in support of those living with MS right here in Hawke’s Bay.

What a beautiful walk we had through the Botanical Gardens in Napier on Sunday for our DSRHB's Spring Walk and Picnic! It was a great sunny day with a breeze, and through the shaded canopies of the trees, we couldn't have asked for better weather. We found green grass, blue skies, white clouds, pink Japanese Cherry Blossoms, light purple wisteria arches, and many other colorful flowers! The great waterfall was a great place to pause and listen and watch as the water flowed carrying petals of other flowers over each edge. Thank you all who came! It was great to connect with more our members and families and supporters. We hope to see you all at the next Walk & Picnic!

Did you know that every three days a baby is born in Aotearoa New Zealand with Cerebral Palsy – Hōkai Nukurangi? That’s around 1 in every 500 babies.

This October, join us in Be Green & Be Seen – Kia kākāriki, kia kitea. Dress in green, get active, hold a green-themed morning tea, and help celebrate diversity while advocating for a more accessible future for everyone.

⚽🎉 Special Olympics Football & Bocce Day 🎉⚽
What an awesome day out celebrating sport, teamwork, and fun!

Our DSRHB crew had a great time joining in – Teina Gartner jumped in for a game of Bocce during the open period between football matches, while Zac Blake came away with a first-place medal with his football team 🥇. We also grabbed a great photo of Zac, Alyssa, and Ben together, capturing the smiles and spirit of the day.

A big shout-out to the Bocce players from EIT who spent the whole event with us – your energy and enthusiasm made the day even better.

Thanks to everyone who joined in – we’re so proud of all the athletes and can’t wait for the next one!
