Wow! Badminton is off to a Smash with Instructor Brian with Badminton Hawke's Bay. All the players are looking great as they practice their skills each Tuesday from 4-5pm at Meeanee Indoor Sports Centre through 2 June. Check out how hard you all have worked! The teamwork you all used to work together to keep the rallies going to great effort and communication. Looking forward to you all improving more and having fun over the next three weeks🏸

Fantastic job DSRHB Flaxmere swimmers! You all are doing such an excellent job with Trish & Kristy at Flaxmere Pools with Aquatics Hastings. Now with twelve swimmers, this is our biggest term yet with swimmers at Flaxmere Pools. Check out how great you all are swimming and keep up the magnificent work. You better look fast, or he’ll run right past! Check out Linus as DSRHB’s Member Spotlight.

Linus joined Disability Sport & Recreation Hawke’s Bay just over a year ago, and he dove right in, participating in so many events and programmes like: Learn to Swim at Napier Aquatic Centre, Basketball for All, Basketball with the Hawks, Adaptive Football, Hockey, and DSRHB’s End of the Year Event. Linus recently competed on the Hawke’s Bay Team at the Halberg Games, where he represented our team with great endurance at his chosen sport. Linus has grown so much in the past year; he wanted to share some of his favourite moments and sports below:

His favourite thing about being a DSRHB member: Doing all of the sports

His favourite sport/event: He enjoys swimming every week

His favourite moment at the Halberg Games: Playing Hungerball for 3 hours & 40 minutes!

The event/sport his looking forward to the most coming to DSRHB: He is most hopeful to have a cricket programme in future.

What a hit our Have a Go Golf session was on Sunday ⛳

So good to see everyone out on the course giving it a go, having a laugh, and backing each other every step of the way. From first swings to a few surprise solid shots, the smiles said it all.

A big thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a fun, welcoming session. And a special shout out to Gabe and the team at Hastings Golf Centre for having us and supporting the day so brilliantly.

This is what DSRHB is all about, creating opportunities, building confidence, and enjoying being active together.

Thank you to Pumas Softball Academy for putting on a Whaikaha Give Softball a Go 5-week programme for our DSRHB members. Our softball players had a grand slam! Congratulations Ethan, the winner of the Home Run Derby on our last session. It was so close, the 2 furthest hits had to be re-measured. Great job to everyone who joined the softball sessions, you all did wonderful job figuring out how to hit with a bat and how to catch with a glove. Be sure to keep an eye out for when the next softball programme or event will be.

Congratulations to our DSRHB Swimmers on a successfully completed Term 1! All our swimmers from Napier Aquatic Centre, Hawke's Bay Regional Aquatic Centre, & Flaxmere Pools Aquatics Hastings have done an excellent job, and we are looking forward to another great term. Now, with 43 swimmers, it was our largest swimming term yet. Hope to see you all making a big splash in Term 2!

Kath has spent the last six months with an amazing group of leaders from New Zealand’s Disability Sport sector on the Te Au Mātāhae, Sport NZ Disability Leadership Programme.

It’s been challenging, rewarding, and full of laughs, and she’s loved learning alongside such a passionate and inspiring group of people, all committed to making a difference for tangata whaikaha.

She’s excited to continue applying the skills from the programme in day-to-day life at DSRHB, helping the team grow, supporting our members, and creating more opportunities for everyone to get involved.

A huge thank you to New Zealand for the opportunity - it’s been a privilege to be part of this journey with such incredible leaders.
