Aufbereitung von Schutzmasken im MELAG Autoklaven:

From Wednesday to Friday JST Medical held a training for Melag technicians from around NZ.
Was a busy 3 days covering off the wide range of Autoclaves, the Melatherm washer disinfector, Melaseal pro heat sealer, Track and trace software and Melastore.

A question asked by a lot of people new to the sterilisation industry is - What is a Critical, Semi-critical and Non-critical instrument?
Well here is some history that is still relevant today...

In 1939 Earle Spaulding published a paper on disinfection of surgical instruments in a chemical solution and proposed a strategy for sterilization or disinfection of inanimate objects and surfaces based on the degree of risk involved in their use for the medical community.

Due to his extensive study of disinfection and sterilization of medical instruments, Spaulding further refined his classification of appropriate treatment of medical devices based upon how a device is used. Chemical disinfection was classified as low level, high level, and sterilization based upon whether a device contacted intact skin, mucous membranes or was introduced into the sterile cavity of the body.

One thing that surprised me the most at the NZDA Expo earlier this year was how many people wanted to have conversations about Washer Disinfectors. We had questions from "Do I still need to clean instruments before they go in?" to "Why would I buy one when I can get a staff member to clean instruments manually?"
What surprised everyone though was that after a bit of information they realised the Melatherm is suitable for almost anyone with any sized practice. You don't need a massive clinic to justify getting one.
