Hearth and Soul NZ

Hearth and Soul NZ A beautiful heart and earth based space for massage, Soul Chats, workshops and more. Natasha has run yoga studios in Palmerston North since 2006.

The Circle Gatherings include yoga, rest, journeying, cacao, ceremonies and more. In 2023 she moved home to Napier and began to create gatherings. These can be two hours long in a community hall, all the way through to residential retreats. Natasha curates spaces, making them feel like you're in a warm home, with a favourite aunt, sharing a cup of tea. On Wednesday nights, at 6.30NZ time, she transports you live to her dining room for an open online yoga class. You can also catch these in the video section. There's a suggested contribution of $6. Since 199, Natasha has also worked with the tarot, 78 pieces of cardboard she will remind you with equal reverence and mirth. From online readings to in-person, workshops to study courses, she loves to share the wisdom and quirky humour of the cards and their stories. To book, to host, to inquire, drop her a message here.

It's a rainy perfect day for snuggling in with a mug of cacao and some fascinating tarot stories and explorations. You don't need anything other than your curiosity.

The last two tarot curious have been about the major arcana - the big stories of the tarot - so what about the minor? Are those 4 suits, similar to the playing cards, even necessary? Oh yes, yes they are. Welcome to the magic of the four elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water and how the tarot teaches us about balancing our lives. It's a wild ride with some interesting companions.

The afternoon runs from 3-5pm and costs $45. This includes a $15 discount off a session with me - and with the new moon incoming you might want to jump on the list for a personal reading dropped in your inbox. Use your discount for this and it will cost you $15.

Bookings through MindBody or the Hello Sunshine Studio website. Message me if you have any troubles.

Caretaking energy: What a gorgeous description of my incoming role at the Wellness Market tomorrow; To nurture and nourish with sound (thanks Clare). I feel so blessed to be heading to .

What's it like to play the bowls all day?

It's beautiful and part of that is creating a living weaving of sound that wraps through and around everyone there. Each new person is a thread, a hum, and I just need to follow the threads.

I feel very close to the playfulness of the faery realm, an intention to stay light, as I ready myself for the day. The preparation begins today, caretaking my energy so there is plenty to give.

Offering a chair is new. It happened spontaneously at a market in Taupō and there was a profound connection made. It's not about healing, although that door is open given the intent of the market. It is about rest. Deep, restoring, nurturing rest. Taking a seat. Softening. Receiving.

And community - how luscious to part of a collective of healers, teachers and wise wāhine toa.

Sunday afternoon (3 August)
The studio warm and snuggly
Monty quite possibly snuggled up the front
The crystal singing bowls leading you in the first sequence, sinking into Yin. Then flowing slowly up into a couple of stronger sequences (with plenty of options to stay sunk into Sunday softness) before heading back to the snuggly vibe of singing bowls and deep relaxation.
What a way to finish the weekend.

Around the Hearth is in your inbox later this week with inspiration and some yoga and tarot goodness.

I'm teaching yoga in my regular spots this week - 10am Monday and 9 and 10am Friday. And a Sunday Special 3-4.30pm. If the booking system isn't sharing the love, message Amy or I and we'll book you in.

The tarot and cacao night is August 6 . We're welcoming the woo so bring your questions about spirit and let's create a safe space to explore them. $50 includes a full moon reading in your inbox later in the week.

I've been asked what type is massage I do? It's slow deep tissue work that is less thumbs and elbows and more whole hand work. There's a focus on the flow of energy to the muscles and deep tension release.

There's also massage specifically available for those suffering chronic pain or illness. This gentle relief focuses on the lymphatic system and softening muscle areas holding pain.

These are $95 an hour

Come and make a half or full day of it. Book a massage and reading/Soul Chat. You can even fit a yoga session in. Palmy crew, share the drive and the love.

A local haunt
The kind where they know your name, your favourite order, and how you like to sit with your journal sometime, looking out into some middle distance. The kind of place you bring friends, to talk out the world over a kawakawa scone, a hot tonic, or a coffee made just right. Where I sit with my sister after yoga, sharing our lives.

I'm doing the adulting part of life where I think what I'd like to be able to do when retirement arrives, adding up numbers to set as a goal. 50 years earth side is no longer around the corner but right on ahead so it's time. A few times a week being able to sit at a table over steaming coffee and good company of human or journal type is definitely in there. A ritual. A joy. A celebration. Every time.

And that's where this ramble leads - to appreciation, to savouring. To lingering. To connecting that simple things are so precious. And that creating and curating the later years of my life is actually kind of fun!

Shout out to for the best version of a lemon honey ginger ever. As for the power coffee!

Recording this week's meditation for the Lilybit subscribers, this was my companion, complete with sigh and gentle snoring. It's all about a reset of the nervous system, a dialing down, nourishing journey. I'm sitting in the feel of it now and it's a bit delicious.

Delicious too to think that I'll be in Palmy for the first time in over a year this weekend. Mooching about familiar places and faces before warming a little studio that's been a labour of love for one of our crew. I'm so looking forward to pouring cacao in her mumma's vintage china. What a treat.

Our Story

The Circle is a boutique yoga studio in the heart of George Street that offers classes, courses and workshops in yoga, meditation, sacred earth practises and tarot. There is a theme of welcoming every body onto the mat (gap between the words intentional). Both Dan and I have become increasingly concerned about the way that yoga and yoga bodies are represented both on and off the mat and we want to constantly make sure that we are welcoming you and your experience to The Circle, not our expectation and ideas. You might notice a difference in the way we talk about your body, your choices in class and even yoga itself. Yoga really is for every body.

I’m Nat, and I used to run Zing Studio and have taught yoga since 2005. It’s my writing you see on The Circle page. I have also read tarot cards since 1993, staying away from fortune telling and working instead with the cards as insights into where life is right now. Known for being good when you need a kick in the butt, I can help plan and then help bust through the barriers to that plan. For those interested in learning more about the cards and themselves, I offer an online, interactive tarot course. Dan has worked alongside me since 2007, teaching yoga and retreats. He is a massage therapist, gifted at getting into those aches and pains and for those who prefer the gentler touch, he is also a healer.

We team up for satsang online which is a chance to talk about life events, world events, all through a yoga filter. This can go in all sorts of directions, circling back to the yoga teachings with a very diverse view of what they are and how we might experience them.

Our up to date timetable is up the front of the page and many of our classes now livestream on Facebook. There is quite a library so have a play. Booking for our in person classes is essential as many classes will be full so email jayadevi@matajiyogaschool.com or text Nat on 027 6282 547
