Kakara We create beautiful Aotearoa native plant remedies with a touch of quality essential oils. They supply high quality, organic, natural & therapeutic products.

Our aromatherapy creations including balms, candles, salts, oils & melts are all handmade. We use reputable NZ & Australian businesses to source essential oils, soy wax and candle wicks. Our recycled teacups, saucers are purchased from the local op shops. Each creation has a distinct healing focus for Uplifting, Soothing, Energising & Calming your mind, body and soul.

Mōrena whānau mā. Here's a wee glimpse of our beautiful whānau whenua in Waimarama that has provided all our whānau with the most amazing beautiful wild Kawakawa in the whole wide world for over a hundred years ❤️.

When mum and I tikitour out home we stop in to visit our whānau and our majestic taonga tuku iho. So while mum raced around filling her bag with her favorite walnuts like a child in a candy store ❤️. I sang our karakia and harvested a few rau for infusions for my waewae, mum & our whānau caring for the homestead now 💋 😘

I make our oils and balms for Kakara using only wild Kawakawa from our whenua because I know its chemical free and our tipuna cared for these before we existed. Every Kawakwa infusion I've harvested the rau using karakia & tikanga i was taught by my whānau and I truly believe after decades of doing this mahi aroha its my purpose in life ❤️ 😍 To offer rongoā aroha & matauranga passed down through the generations since mai rā ano 🤔 😊 🙌

Exciting opportunities coming up in the near future. Adult workshops in the horizon has me thinking about the maramataka ❤️.

Our April kawakawa workshop was great and we're just awaiting the professional photos because I forgot to take some doh 😆 Lots of tamariki and their caregivers took home Oriana & Māmā Kawakwa balms to use and share their learnings and koha with whānau & even our photographer had a balm made for her by a lovely mum❤️.

The pics below are my inspiration for my herb & maara kai plan & planting last week hmmm, still work in progress but ill take pics tomorrow and keep adding to the plan 💯. Mauriaroha 💋

Week 3 at kura & finally pulled the green gold out of the hot water cupboard for our first lovely Kawakwa balms & oils wananga 2026 ❤️ 😍.

A bit of Aataahua for relaxing those full on academic brains 🤪 😜 and a bit of Măia for those sore new years resolution gym muscles 😆 🤣 & lastly Köwhai for those snotty covid germs apparently circulating our rohe 😔 😟.

Give a man a fish and he will eat, teach a man to fish & he will feed the village, mā pango, mä whero ka ora ai te iwi ❤️ 😍 💖

My beautiful mini me mokopuna turned 12 recently and like her tuakana she's been experimenting with our kawakawa oils from a very young age too. It's second nature for her to say "I know Nana" & give me the move aside eyes🤣🤣. Annnnnnndddddd I love it that she knows I know she knows like IYKYK❣️❣️😘😘

2026 has arrived and as usual full of whānau time, in the water by the lakes, rivers & pools & watching these strange weather patterns with pouring rain & loud thunder and lightning too🤪💯

Looking forward to plenty of healing vibes with our first rongoā Kawakawa wananga in February then harvesting, planting and infusions in March, April & May for more wananga throughout the new year. Especially after this lovely long break with whānau❣️❣️

Wow 9 years ago in September I created this page (hika I was a tutunui, mixing and trying lots of rau, oils, essential oils, jars, infusions for a few months beforehand❣️) & after many trials and experiments with whānau me ngā hoa😍.

I came home to Te Whanganui a Ōrotu after a long wonderful journey in Te Whanganui a Tara❣️

I started a healing journey back here at home after almost losing one of my children and realising how short life is and how easily a loved one can be taken from you without rhyme or reason 🙏

On this journey I was reconnected with kawakawa, my very old friend from my childhood that my nanny often used on my tinana for the many mamae a tutunui child like myself would endure. Cuts, bites, colds, coughs, sores, boils, you name it I got it😜

So as all my own wonderful mokopuna( aged 14 to 2 years now) were growing I would see particular mamae they would endure and we'd tutu with our beautiful kawakawa and aromatherapy essential oils I'd used for 25+ years and that's how Kakara was created🙏

It's evolved over almost a decade from healing candles to healing balms, tea leaves, healing oils, Kono for all seasons, births, marenatanga, tangihanga, kaumatua, pakeke, rangatahi, pepi, mama, mamae hohipera & wananga(one per season) with beautiful Kawakawa. All with my mōkopuna, tāmariki, au, māmā & our tipuna kuia guiding this beautiful journey, as in the beginning❣️

Last week I walked along a beautiful pathway to take my mokoboy to his waka ama practice. All these beautiful plants popped out of the scenery everywhere ❣️❣️

I thought to myself, we live in the most beautiful place on earth here in little old Aotearoa NZ💯💯
