That outer hip pain might not be arthritis — it could be irritated glute muscles.
I often see people with tight or overloaded glute tendons — the muscles on the side of your hip that help stabilise you when you walk.
When they become irritated, they can cause pain on the outside of the hip…
especially when lying on that side, walking uphill, or getting out of the car.
Long hours sitting, uneven hips, or always crossing the same leg can aggravate them.
It often shows up as night pain — that deep ache that makes it hard to find a comfortable position.
Have you noticed your hip hurting more when you lie on it, even though scans show “nothing serious”?
