This is the stunning scene I walked into the other night as I entered my client/close friends home to be part of her birth team. She brought their beautiful surprise gender baby boy into the world in the comfort of her own home surrounded by loving support. The oxytocin was flowing freely! Such a beautiful family centered birth I will never forget. A woman giving birth is such a powerful force and the energy can be felt all around. It is such a privilege to be doing this work❤

This picture is from a birth book from the 70's. The words read-

"Once you are in labour, you will be constantly checked by the doctor. The doctor will reassure you that labour is progressing satisfactorily. If the doctor feels it is important to watch labour closely, he may decide to monitor monitor the fetal heart rate. At the same time, the drug which controls the contractions is administered automatically.

How disempowering does that sound? Who's birth is this?

How does it make you feel?

In 2020, this is sometimes still the culture of birth.

When we are not supported in birth,
not respected,
intuition disregarded,
when we are told what to do, rather than be an active participant in the decision making process,
when we are not trusted,
when we are "managed",
when we are not given options,
when our voices are not heard,
when our choices are not supported,
when we are not the leaders of our experience,
when we are boxes to be ticked,

we can come out of the experience disconnected, disempowered and sometimes extremely damaged. This is a broken way to start Motherhood, and Mothers are the foundations of humanity. They are our first point of loving contact and this connection is what grows us!

Power, choice and autonomy MUST remain with the birth givers. This is pivotal to the health and wellbeing of humankind.
Stand firm in your power and do not give it to anyone.

THE MOTHER IS HERE!
Revere her, respect her, follow her.

1 week ago I had the pleasure of being a virtual doula for this beautiful boy's mama❤
She absolutely rocked her homebirth and stayed in good spirits despite having a very long intense labor. She was supported by her loving partner and I was so grateful to be a part of their incredible experience.

I am in awe of her strength and determination to achieve the birth SHE wanted even when met with a lack of support from those around her. She showed just because it was her first baby it didn't mean she couldn't be in total control and make the informed decisions she knew were best for her.

During her pregnancy we got to know eachother and I made myself available whenever she needed. I'm so happy to offer virtual doula services as well as in person. This allows me to help anyone, anywhere in the world or be there in a different capacity where it isn't suitable/possible for me to be there in person❤

I want to share with you the New Zealand doula directory that another wonder doula has put together. I'm so grateful to be listed on here and hope this will make it easier for expectant parents all around the country to find a doula❤

Such a great description of doula work❤❤❤

Although I absolutely love these images of me supporting women in birth but I know the common mainstream perception is that a Doula is all about back rubbing, massages and words of encouragement but there is SO much more to Doula support!! A lot of the work that expectant parents do with me is in the prenatal period through childbirth education about how their body works, the hormones of labour, fear and it’s impact, past trauma debriefing and healing and working with your mind and body, benefits and risks of common interventions, birth preferences, active birth, partner support and so much more.

My Doula work is about creating trust between my clients and I and about building a relationship that is valued and that creates reassurance for them that there is someone there to create a sacred and safe environment for them to birth. Someone that believes in them and will remind them of that belief the whole way through ❤️ someone to work with their partner in supporting them and advocating for them so that they know they have choices in birth.

On top of all this there is so much going on behind the scenes when I’m on call which involves having my phone constantly on me, constantly doing continued education, staying on top of latest research studies, being on call 24/7 and always telling family and friends the common sentence when it come to scheduled catchups ‘unless I’m at a birth’ ☺️ and then when I get that phone call and leave home to attend a birth I leave my family not knowing how many hours or even a day or so later that I’ll see them again and come home with a ‘Doula Hangover’ 💤 But that’s Doula life and I love it or I wouldn’t be doing this work.

Doulas are essential in every single way. Especially when birth sometimes doesn’t go to plan. They are there to take away the ‘what if’s’ and remind mothers that they were absolute amazing birthing goddesses and that their new little one should be honoured to have a mama as strong as the one I got to witness ❤️

I just wanted to hop on and share a few quick things with you all!

My website and work cell have now been added😁

I'm planning a giveaway in the not so distant future so please keep sharing my pages. Instagram is ❤

While my main service is a birth doula I understand some may want different support/guidance. You may just wish to gain knowledge and support as you prepare for you birth experience in the form of a one off meeting. I am able to offer variations of my services to suit each individual so please enquire regardless. I hope to eventually be able to offer workshops too💜

I hope level 2 is going well for everyone🙂
