💯💯💯
This picture is from a birth book from the 70's. The words read-
"Once you are in labour, you will be constantly checked by the doctor. The doctor will reassure you that labour is progressing satisfactorily. If the doctor feels it is important to watch labour closely, he may decide to monitor monitor the fetal heart rate. At the same time, the drug which controls the contractions is administered automatically.
How disempowering does that sound? Who's birth is this?
How does it make you feel?
In 2020, this is sometimes still the culture of birth.
When we are not supported in birth,
not respected,
intuition disregarded,
when we are told what to do, rather than be an active participant in the decision making process,
when we are not trusted,
when we are "managed",
when we are not given options,
when our voices are not heard,
when our choices are not supported,
when we are not the leaders of our experience,
when we are boxes to be ticked,
we can come out of the experience disconnected, disempowered and sometimes extremely damaged. This is a broken way to start Motherhood, and Mothers are the foundations of humanity. They are our first point of loving contact and this connection is what grows us!
Power, choice and autonomy MUST remain with the birth givers. This is pivotal to the health and wellbeing of humankind.
Stand firm in your power and do not give it to anyone.
THE MOTHER IS HERE!
Revere her, respect her, follow her.
