🔦 SERVICE SPOTLIGHT · KAIATAWHAI SERVICE

The Kaiatawhai Service offers free support for people and whānau who face barriers to accessing healthcare. While we prioritise Māori and Pacific peoples, the service is open to anyone who needs support.

Our team includes a Kaiawhina (Community Connector), Kaiārahi Hauora (Health Navigator) and Nehi (Nurse). Together, they can help you understand your health needs, set achievable goals, and connect you with the right services.

We can help with appointments and referrals, and link you with GPs, specialists, and community services — making healthcare easier to access and less overwhelming.

If you or someone in your whānau could benefit, talk with your Māori health provider, general practice, or a community agency about a referral.

Navigating health, together.

🔦 SERVICE SPOTLIGHT · HEALTH IMPROVEMENT PRACTITIONERS & HEALTH COACHES

Feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or stuck with your health? You don’t have to manage it alone.

Health Improvement Practitioners (HIPs) are behavioural health clinicians based in general practices. They offer short, focused sessions to help with things like stress, anxiety, low mood, sleep, grief, relationships, or coping with illness and pain.

Health Coaches work alongside HIPs and your practice team to support longer-term change. They help with goal setting, lifestyle changes, long-term conditions, money matters and navigating everyday challenges - offering encouragement, practical support, and regular check-ins.

Both services are free, confidential, and focused on what matters to you.

To access support, contact your GP to see what's available and to book an appointment.

Care that meets you where you are.

From 1 February 2026, some people with stable, long-term health conditions may be able to get prescriptions that last up to 12 months with only one co-payment fee for the first time they pick up their medicines

This change will make it easier and cheaper to get the medicines you need, and you will still stay connected with your healthcare team.

The maximum quantity of medicine that can be supplied from the pharmacy at any one time remains at three months (six months for oral contraceptives).

Overheating can happen faster than you think — especially on hot days. Knowing the signs and acting early can make a big difference.
Symptoms don’t always appear in order. If you’re worried, trust your instincts and act.

As temperatures rise:
💧 Drink water regularly
⛱ Rest in the shade and keep cool
👀 Look out for others who might struggle in the heat - especially babies, children, and older people

Save this post so you know what to do if someone starts overheating.

Are you dehydrated?

If you are dehydrated, it means your body has lost more fluids than you have drunk. If it gets worse, it can be a serious problem and life threatening.

The easiest way to check if you’re hydrated is by looking at your wee (urine), it should be almost clear and there should be plenty of it. If it is a dark-yellow colour, you are not drinking enough.
