Recovery update Monday 21 July 21 3pm
SILT
A new domestic silt disposal site has been set up at Riwaka. This will operating from tomorrow at 690 Main Road Riwaka – the touch footy grounds. This site will be able to take larger truck loads of silt from around houses and driveways. You need to phone us here on 03 543 8400 to book in before loads can be dumped.
The two other collection sites are Ngātīmoti Reserve off the Motueka Valley Highway, and the old Māriri landfill next to the Resource Recovery Centre on Robinson Road. These are for domestic trailers or utes or small trucks up to five tonnes.
Ngātīmoti is open mornings only from 8.00 am to 12 noon then the old Māriri landfill will be open afternoons from 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm. Due to a road closure you can only access it from the Moutere Highway. These hours are Monday to Saturday.
We’re working with the Rural Support Trust, HortNZ and MPI to put a broader plan together to deal with larger volumes of silt as well as agricultural waste and wood from farms and orchards. This became a much larger issue after the second flood.
We realise silt and debris it is a significant problem, but we need to ensure we have robust procedures in place for dealing with it. The Rural Support Trust is surveying rural property owners to establish who needs the most urgent assistance.
NAVIGATORS
We can help with guidance and support to get you back on your feet after the floods. If you need help working through this confusing process, we can assist with specially appointed navigators to help you out.
Our Navigators can support you through the recovery process for damaged homes and land by providing a single contact point for all your questions.
The navigator’s role is to support you to access the right services, at the right time, through connection with appropriate wrap-around recovery support agencies. These agencies are all working with the same goal in mind – to get you back into your property when it is safe.
The service is designed to empower individuals and whānau to help increase resilience and self-reliance so you can get through this and move forward with your lives. To get in touch with one of our navigators call us 03 543 8400
WATER
Tapawera - we are pleased to advise that the boil water notice has now been lifted for the Tapawera Water Supply.
The quality of the source water has fully recovered, and the treatment plant has returned to normal operating conditions. No bacteria were found in any of the treated water samples collected at the plant and within the network.
This means that the residents and businesses connected to the water supply no longer need to boil water before consumption.
Dovedale - The water supply is operating with all reservoirs either full or filling. There may still be network issues yet to be identified but these will be dealt with as they are discovered.
Please contact us if you notice leaks or pipe breaks within our system or have reduced water flow into your tanks. Water tankers will no longer be stationed at Dovedale Hall and Upper Moutere Village due to supply resumption.
Always boil bore water! It’s vital any properties that draw water from private bores, particularly those with uncovered water sources, boil all water before using it – this should be always done, not just during or after flooding. Bacterial contamination is always a very real concern. Boiling water will minimise the risks.
ROADS
After three weeks of continuous and tireless work, many of our roading crews managed to get a day or two’s rest during the weekend but they’re back on the job again today. There are still several roads that remain closed while others require extreme care to use.
We understand that essential trips are necessary, but people need to be aware of the potential hazards from heavy machinery operating, work crews and unmarked hazards on the roads. Due to the scale of the repairs being made we simply don’t have the resources to put warning signs or road cones up at every problem area.
Basically, if you don’t have to be on that road – don’t go.
