Chlorpyrifos, an organophosphate insecticide widely used in New Zealand for the control of agricultural pests, is being phased out due to identified health and environmental risks. The substance has already been prohibited in Canada and the European Union. The decision follows multiple scientific reviews and public submissions, including recent research demonstrating neurodevelopmental harm, such as impaired brain development in infants exposed in utero.
