🌿 Why Your Fingers Might Tingle During a Craniosacral Session

It’s very common for people to feel tingling or a light numbness in their fingers during a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy session. This usually means your body is relaxing deeply and your nervous system is shifting out of “fight or flight” into a calmer, restorative state. As circulation and nerve signals adjust, you might feel this as gentle tingling in your hands.

On a deeper level, this can also be a sign that your system is beginning to connect with the slower biodynamic tides — the natural rhythms that underlie health and balance. When these deeper currents come forward, energy and fluid movement reorganize throughout the whole body, and the fingers and hands often register that change first.

So if you notice your hands tingling, it’s usually your body’s way of saying, “I’m settling, releasing, and coming back into flow.” 🌊💫

🌀 Therapeutic Skills in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy 🌀
How we support the body’s natural healing processes

In the Body Intelligence training, we learn many skills, but one of the deepest layers is the development of a healing approach — the ability to sense what the body needs and how to provide a safe space for integration, release, and return to balance.

💠 What do therapeutic skills mean?
They are abilities that go far beyond simply doing techniques. These are subtle yet profound qualities that allow us to:
✨ Listen to the body without trying to change it
✨ Recognize when non-intervention is the most appropriate response
✨ Support the system’s self-organization and innate intelligence
✨ Accompany the client through trauma release without retraumatization
✨ Be present in silence, without the urge to fix anything

Healing touch doesn’t come from pressure or manipulation — it arises from calm, attuned contact that connects and regulates the nervous system.

🌿 In biodynamic craniosacral therapy, we speak of the therapeutic field — a space in which the body begins to seek balance on its own, once we offer enough safety and trust.

📍 Therapeutic skills are not born from effort — but from presence.

Science shows that we can amplify pain, but critically, we can also unlearn pain. There is something you can do to change your pain experience and retrain your nervous system.

It’s important to be creative. You’re unique and need to experiment to find out what works for you. There’s no one answer that fits everyone.

Your Questions Answered

Q What’s this ‘Cranio’ all about then? This is a gentle whole body therapy where the practitioner does not manipulate or adjust bones or tissue, instead, gentle holds and light touch enable the therapist to listen to the body and it's systems. In this therapeutic space, the body seeks to bring itself back into regulated balance and health.

Q Ummm, I’m confused, are Cranio, Craniosacral Therapy, BCST and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy the same thing? Why yes, they are the same thing! We use all of the above terms interchangeably - in our communications, they all mean the same thing which is... Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (What a mouthful! That’s why we shorten it)

Q So what does the word Biodynamic have to do with it? The word Biodynamic refers to the form of Craniosacral Therapy we use. There are other forms of Craniosacral Therapy which differ in their approach to the modality. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapists support the body’s innate wisdom to align with its original health blueprint - an organising intelligence that informs the interaction and the synergy of all body systems.

Q Can Cranio be used to treat my condition and where can I find more info? Watch this clip from Steve Haines, International teacher of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy. Crank up the volume, its recorded at a very low level. https://vimeo.com/8959937 Prefer to read about it?
