Breast cancer affects 1 in 9 women New Zealand women in their lifetime. As a dermatologist, 3 cases of breast cancers were detected during full body skin examination due to the skin changes on the breasts. Mutation of the BRACA2 gene has also been shown to have an increase in melanoma risk, this is particularly evident in the BRACA2 gene carrier.
It was a humbling experience to be part of the Dine for Cure event organised by Breast Cancer Cure- a not for profit organization raising funds for scientific research to cure breast cancer. The energy and passion and the generosity of people were heart warming

Medicine is not only about treating patients it is also about sharing knowledge with colleagues. It was an absolutely pleasure to be invited to present at the GP conference held in Auckland last weekend on a topic close to my heart- Acne.
Acne is the 8th most common disease globally and it poses significant psychosocial impact on individuals. On top of prescribed medications, we as clinicians can incorporate appropriate dermocosmetics into our treatment regimen to enhance our patients treatment journey.

Many think skin cancer is only about moles or melanoma- but BCC and SCC are actually the most common types of skin cancers. Once you have had one, your chances of developing another skin cancer in the next 5 years can be significantly increased- and the risk of melanoma can be 6.6 times higher.

There is a tennis buzz DownUnder- The ASB classic has just concluded and we look forward to the Australian Open. Being a spectator- there is a lot of UV exposure throughout the event. Make sure you stay hydrated and stay UV safe. Stay under the shade as much as possible, wear a hat, reapply sunscreen every 2 hours.

Vitamin D is vital for our bodily function. However what is balanced to ensure enough vitamin D is being synthesized while not over expose ourselves to UVB? In peak NZ summer only 6 minutes of exposure is required on the face and both hands- not a lot is required!! health

As the year draws to an end we reflect on 2025 with gratitude. This year we welcomed two dermatologists - Dr Huebsch and Dr Nichols to the clinic. We also had Lucy, Destinee and Nelly joining the team. With growing expertise we endeavour to deliver you the highest quality specialist dermatology service.
Our clinic will be closed from the 24th of December and we will reopen on 5th of Jan.
We wish you all a sun safe Christmas and we look forward to seeing you in 2026.

Skin Expert Centre would like to thank you all once again for prioritizing your skin health and putting your trust in us.

As the year draws to a close, we reflect on the year with gratitude. 2025 has been a year of growth. We welcomed two dermatologists - Dr Huebsch and Dr Nichols - to the clinic. We also had Lucy, Destinee and Nelly join the team. With the growing expertise, we endeavour to deliver the highest quality of specialist dermatology care to our community.

Our clinic will be closed from 24 December. We will reopen on 5 January.

We wish you all a sun-safe Christmas and look forward to seeing you all in 2026.
