Raranga has always been on my must-do list, and I recently discovered a 60-minute wānanga for Harakeke Weaving Workshop with Te Whaea Witika in Auckland CBD.

When I considered the time frame after giving my $5 koha, I thought, what can we possibly learn in 1 hour?!

I was pleasantly surprised that we learned and achieved our goal, and it was fun!

After months of intense korowai weaving, I picked up Harakeke and was off! Here we made Christmas tree decorations 🙂

Congratulations to Professor Ngarino Ellis on her inaugural lecture delivered at the University of Auckland this week.
She is the foremost Māori art historian globally; we both whakapapa to Ngāti Porou and have an interest in Māori adornment. The area of interest I focused on in my unpublished Master's Degree was kōkōwai, also known as the mineral iron oxide or red ochre.

🪞Mercury Retrograde Is Coming… But Don’t Panic

We’re not in the shadow yet -that starts October 21st -but you might already sense the energy shifting. Mercury goes full retrograde on November 9th, and this one will be all about reflection, reconnection, and clarity before 2025 ends.

Right now is the calm before the cosmic shake-up.
Take this week to get ahead of Mercury’s chaos:
🔹 Back up your files and photos
🔹 Sort out travel plans and contracts
🔹 Clear the air in your relationships
🔹 Start grounding your energy -it’ll save you later

The pre-shadow period (Oct 21) is when things slowly start to unravel, so staying organized now gives you the upper hand.

Retrograde energy isn’t here to punish -it’s here to make you pause, realign, and make sure you’re walking your truth, not your distractions.

Thank you, Sophie Strickland & Whaea Naomi Waipuna Puawai for facilitating this excellent creative space for us all to grow & learn.
Reclaimation of traditional skills is an exciting space and a fun time out from PhD writing and research.

I believe Rongoā is in everything we surround ourselves with, and the Design Guardinship lecture delivered by designer, storyteller, and cultural strategist Anzac Tasker deep dived into graphics, fonts and informs us that Māori signed with symbols, and asks us if it is time to develop te reo alphabet into a symbolised form?

The exhibition artwork, Pohewa Pāhewa: Te Rūma, will run from September 6 to November 2, 2025, at Objectspace Art Gallery, 1 Rose Road, Ponsonby.

I was excited to attend Te Kete Pounamu Māori Lived Experience Symposium 2025, which was supported by Te Rau Ora, who have also supported my Master's Degree and PhD academic journey.
I was grateful to be invited to reconnect with Rikki Solomon, who delivered maramatanga, Wiremu & Lesley Nia Nia, who delivered Wairuatanga, and my Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi Tainui cohort peer Rose Heta-Minhinnick, as well as their humble powerhouse CEO Kerry.
It was nice to be back in a social services space. The location was great, the kai was awesome, and all the staff were extremely hospitable. Oh, and the goodie bag was fabulous.

My healing mineral cosmetic applications contain natural oxides from Papatūānuku.
Be mindful of what you place in and on your body, as many ingredients in personal products are not conducive to your optimum health.
Buy NZ made, 100% mineral, not 3% mineral and karakia before you reconnect to the blood of Papatūānuku (in mineral cosmetics) if you're applying Red Ochre/Iron Oxide/Kōkōwai...just karakia 😉 🤩😘🥰
