PRESCRIPTION CO-PAYMENT UPDATE

The government has reintroduced prescription co-payments.

From 1 July 2024 funded medicine prescriptions will have a $5 charge.

Prescriptions for fully funded medicines will however continue to be FREE for those people

· aged 65 years or over

· aged 13 years or younger

· of any age who hold a Community Services Card (CSC) and their dependent children aged 14-17 years

· holding a Prescription Subsidy Card (PSC).

Once you and your family have collected 20 new prescriptions within 1 year (commencing 31 January) you won’t have to pay any more prescription co-payment charges until 1 February the following year.

If your prescription is from a non-publicly funded prescriber such as a dentist or private specialist there is a $15 co-payment.

If your medicine is not fully funded or subsidised, there may be an additional cost.
