If a “healthy” drink can last a year on the shelf, it’s worth asking why.
Shelf-stable products are designed to resist change. To achieve that, they’re often heavily processed, heat-treated, and stabilised so nothing grows or breaks down over time. The trade-off is that many of the compounds your gut relies on don’t survive this process.
Your digestive system tends to respond best to foods and drinks that stay closer to their natural state. When products are engineered for extreme shelf life, they can be harder to digest and less supportive of gut balance.
Choosing options with a shorter shelf life usually means fewer additives, gentler processing, and ingredients your body recognises more easily.
