Learning Beyond the Classroom 🌿
This week our Primary learners ventured out on a field trip to the local rock pools, where curiosity led the way. The children carefully observed, explored, and classified the many species they discovered, completely immersed in the awe and wonder of nature.
This trip was part of our termly ‘Where Wild Things’ gathering, with parents invited to join. It was a joy to see families witnessing their children having fun, taking safe risks in nature, communicating with confidence, and solving problems collaboratively with their friends.
Adding to the magic, for some learners this was the second trip in a row where they were lucky enough to spot pods of orca (killer whales) offshore—an incredibly rare experience. It felt very much like Mother Nature’s own seal of approval 💙

Learning Connected to Real‑World Innovation 🌱
As part of our ongoing learning around sustainability, science & future pathways, we recently welcomed Thom Adams from to
Thom shared insights into biotech innovation and STEM careers in Taranaki and across Aotearoa, helping students connect classroom learning with real opportunities in our region. Students explored wetland water samples hands‑on, examined what lives within them, and discussed future pathways in conservation, marine biology, ecology and environmental science.
Experiences like this deepen understanding, spark curiosity, and show how learning can lead to meaningful impact — right here at home. An inspiring reminder that innovation, kaitiakitanga and future careers are closely linked. 🌊🔬

Nestled in the natural landscape of Taranaki, Green Camp is a place where children reconnect with the environment, develop real-world skills, and experience learning beyond the traditional classroom.
Our programs are designed to nurture curiosity, confidence, and a deep respect for nature. Here, students learn by doing - exploring forests, building, collaborating, and discovering how they fit into the world around them.

This International Women’s Day, our School teachers shared words of wisdom that have been passed down to them by significant wāhine in their lives. ✨
From powerful quotes to beautifully simple reminders that shape our days such as ‘remember to pack your lunch’ 🥪 (advice from Year 6 learners much-loved mum).

Today we celebrate the wāhine who guide us, support us, and inspire us every day.

Back in November, Matua Te Rangikaheke very generously gifted our kura a collection of kūmara tipu (plants). Since then, they have been growing quietly in our māra, nourished by the whenua, the rain, and the care of our learners. 🌱
On Wednesday, during Rakaunui (the full moon), it was time to harvest. Guided by tikanga Māori, our learners took part in a special and meaningful harvesting experience that connected them to traditional knowledge, seasonal rhythms, and the land. 🌕
A large portion of the harvested kūmara will be carefully stored in preparation for our Puanga festival next term—continuing the cycle of seasonal celebration and mātauranga Māori within our kura. 🌿

This is Green School.

Green School captures and celebrates the wonder of learning.

We acknowledge the siren call of the future and so empower young people to become happy, excited, lifelong learners within a future-focused curriculum advocating sustainable impact.

For today's young people - who are social and curious and eager to experiment - the joys and challenges of our complex world are best explored by doing, engaging and experiencing. There is no place for fear, and there must be room for mistakes along the way as they are merely stepping stones to resilience and success. We believe in rigour and discipline, but better those qualities grow within a child rather than be imposed. We are convinced the ethical, creative, entrepreneurial mind will best serve our damaged planet's future, and we know a young person should develop holistically, not as a confused and confusing collection of paper qualifications. This is Green School.
