A powerful eclipse and 'Tuna-heke' Moon (not a Blood Moon)

The fact - we are in the Southern Hemisphere and our Moons have their own Southern Māori kupu. Meaning - we don't have to blindly follow Universal names conjured for Northern skies, northern season.

The truth - Our Southern moon flavour reflects He Marama's relationship to Papatūānuku (Earth) and the Autumn Sun (Hine Kura).

The astronomy - This total Moon eclipse is actually best seen from Aotearoa (NZ) starting 9:45pm tomorrow and lasting till the full eclipse about 12:45pm.

The mātauraka - It is now Autumn Season known as Poutūteraki (March) and the Eels (tuna) are in the migratory path to the Sea. The tuna heke will reach the sea (on mass) by the New Moon 19 March (2:30pm). A new cycle of life will be spawned at sea to come back on Southern tides to our shores.

The message - It's a time to celebrate what has passed and wait for the new life to return (after a lovely winter hibernation).
