PEMF THERAPY USING THE QRS101 COULD BE BENEFICIAL FOR MANY ASPECTS AFFECTING US DURING THE COVID19 PANDEMIC
On 13 September 2021 we asked the QRS Head Office in Germany “Do your medical advisory team have any advice on how this device might benefit our customers in regard to providing help against either the symptoms of Covid and/or documented side effects of the vaccine”
To help frame their response appropriately for New Zealand (and Australia) we provided QRS with information from the New Zealand Medsafe website that, on the day we raised the question, listed both adverse events of special interest and conditions for further investigation.
These two lists comprised of:
Immune system disorders, Guillain-Barré Syndrome, Thrombocytopenia, Thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS), Anaphylaxis, Myocardial infarction (heart attack), Myocarditis/pericarditis, Thrombosis, Embolism, Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), Vasculitis, Haemorrhage, Acute kidney injury, Acute liver injury, Aseptic meningitis, Encephalitis, Stroke, Bell's Palsy/facial paralysis, Myelitis, Erythema multiforme, Arthritis, Herpes zoster, Abortion (spontaneous abortion /miscarriage), Blood clots, Appendicitis, Herpes zoster, Menstrual disorder, Stroke, Tinnitus, AEFIs in the elderly, Pancreatitis, Glomerular diseases.
Obviously, conditions such as Anaphylaxis and Heart Attack are emergency conditions and require immediate medical intervention, however many others that are not emergencies and/or are not receiving medical intervention have been mentioned in the very exciting response that we received on 16 September 2021.
The full context of their response (edited for spelling and punctuation only) is outlined below for you to review.
Response from QRS
A dangerous part of a Covid infection is an exaggerated immune response. This is mainly expressed by a strong inflammatory reaction that leads to pneumonia and could end in an acute lung failure, called Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome ARDS.
Highly important in the orchestration of the inflammatory response are so called cytokines which are produced by nearly every cell. This will lead to activation of immune cells and production as well the release of further cytokines that could end in a “cytokine storm”, in the sense of an excessive inflammatory response [1],[2]. But there are both pro-inflammatory cytokines and ant-inflammatory cytokines.
What is particularly important now: The main impact potential of QRS (PEMF) is stimulating microcirculation and down-regulating any inflammation. For example QRS is damping both Tumor Necrosis factor (TNF-alpha) and IL-beta (Interleukin-beta) which are strong pro-inflammatory cytokines [3],[4],[5],[6],[7]. At the same time the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 does increase [8]. Irrespective of this effect, in a H1N1 influenza PEMF [9] have shown raising resistance to immune system by boosting ATP production [10]. For instance, gradient magnetic field applied to Covid-19 can affect RNA orientation and membrane potential through M protein (strongly anti-phagocytic virulence factor) [11]
In a Covid-infection, there are also generated ROS (free radicals). For example, RNA viruses can cause cell death by generating oxidative stress in infected cells [12]. Therefore, it is most welcome that PEMF regulates damage by reducing oxidative stress and increasing the level of antioxidants [13],[14].
Long-Covid
Additionally, a Covid-infection can be aggravated by post-Covid conditions (CDC). Even people who did not have Covid-19 symptoms in the weeks after they were infected can be involved in this problem. Most of the symptoms were similar to the symptomatology developed during the acute phase of COVID-19. However, given that all of the surveys were predefined, there is a possibility that other effects have not yet been identified. The five most common effects are fatigue (58%), headache (44%), attention disorder (27%), hair loss (25%), and dyspnoea (24%). The recovery from COVID-19 should be more developed than checking for hospital discharge or testing negative for SARS-CoV-2 or positive for antibodies [15].
Studies
PEMF reduces hyper-inflammation triggered by Covid-19 [16]
In a Covid-based pneumonia, PEMF contributes to the regression of respiratory disorders, reduces the level of anxiety and depression, reduces pain and discomfort, thereby improving the patient’s quality of life. For example: Patients showed an increase in the vital capacity of the lungs by 16.4% in comparison with a control group. Further, an increase in chest excursion by 45.6%, a decrease in the level of shortness of breath from moderate to mild by 64.1%, a decrease in disabilities by 62.7%, compared with the control group.[17]
Thrombosis /Thrombocytopenia
Results: Showed that Group A that received PEMF had significant increase of platelets count and significant reduction of INR (International Normalized Ratio), while the other group had no significant difference in both of them. Conclusion: Pulsed magnetic field increases platelets count and decreases coagulation [18]
Anaphylaxis
PEMF makes no sense. That’s an emergency case
Heart attack
An emergency case. But PEMF treatment could promote angiogenesis of the infarct border zone and improve cardiac function [19],[20].
Acute kidney injury
There are only PEMF-studies for the treatment in an end stage renal disease
Stroke
Acute effects of PEMF on cerebral microvascular perfusion and metabolism, that persisted for at least 3 hours. Therefore, PEMF may be an effective treatment for patients after ischemic brain injury [21]
Bell’s palsy
PEMF added to standard physical therapy program results in better improvement of facial asymmetry and decreases facial nerve degeneration in patients with chronic Bell’s Palsy [22].
Arthritis
There are numerous studies, for instance [23],[24],[25]. Special emphasis should be placed on the results of a QRS-study in 2001 [26].
Herpes zoster
All patients received ten PEMF treatment sessions. No new lesions were found after the first treatment, and pain was remarkably reduced. 55% of patients recovered from their affliction after 4 – 6 sessions while none needed more than 10 sessions. This procedure proved efficient in the treatment of Herpes zoster in all patients treated [27]. And Cochrane [28]
