“Meet Oscar and smile Brighter, save Bigger: Quality Dental Care in Mexico!”
So, picture this: I’m down in Mexico with my group, everyone’s gearing up for bariatric surgery, and wouldn’t you know it—I start feeling a bit of a toothache! I thought, “Why not sneak off and see Pam’s dentist, Oscar?” Within minutes of arriving, I had a CT scan, a panoramic x-ray, and the not-so-great news that I needed a root canal. I was bracing myself for the whole “book-another-appointment” routine, but nope! Oscar made a quick call, and 20 minutes later, a root canal specialist showed up at his office. Just like that, I was all fixed up! Total cost? $400 US ($650NZ)for the root canal and $100 ($150NZ) for the consultation and CT scans. Not bad, right?

But that’s just the start! I’m now embarking on the grand plan to get an all-on-six implant. Basically, it’s like a super-secure, bolted-in denture that’ll be anchored into my bone. Because I’m, well, in my “mature” years, I need a sinus lift and a bone graft first—scheduled for January. From there, I’ll be adding to my dental masterpiece on each trip to Mexico through 2025 until I’ve got the whole all-on-six setup!

I did get a couple of implants in Thailand a few years back, but with age doing its thing, I figured it’s time to go for the complete arch. Here’s to future trips to Mexico, a sparkling smile, and Oscar’s VIP dental service!

Just got back to New Zealand and found this beautiful review on one of the bariatric forums and I thought I’d like to share this with everybody.

Hey everyone hope all is well
Just like
to share mine and my husband journey.
We both went for gastric sleeve surgery in Tijuana last monday with the most awesome group who now we call family.
Our lovely tour guide Jackie Brown who is the most supportive caring and
trustworthy person you could ever ask for we love her. She has the biggest heart She stayed behind in san diego to look after one of the ladies who ended up in hospital due to complications of diabetes she saved that person life. Anyways Jackie and her team Pam and Brian from Tijuana gave us the best experience. Pam and Brian are the most beautiful couple you would ever meet they will look after you no matter what. Dr Giovanni our surgeon and his team looked after us and the group very well they did an amazing job with all of us. I would recommend anyone to go with Jackie and the team of Tijuana you would have the most amazing time with them. We will be for ever grateful. Thank you

What an adventure it’s been—I must have a bit of hobbit in me! After a scenic three-hour train ride from San Diego to Union Station, I managed to navigate my way through the elevators and make it up to the bus station. Now, I’m comfortably on the bus, heading to Los Angeles Airport.

Meanwhile, my wonderful client who is still in the hospital is now in the capable hands of her travel insurance team. They’ve assured us they’ll get her safely back to New Zealand as soon as she’s discharged. She’s already making great progress, getting up and starting to walk around, so it’s just a matter of days until she’s on her way home.

My group has been truly amazing, texting me daily to make sure I’m okay, and I can’t thank Pam and Brian from Tijuana enough—they crossed the border every single day to check in on our client and ensure she had everything she needed.

We also received confirmation from the physician at San Diego Hospital that her gastric sleeve surgery was a 100% success, with her DKA being due to her longstanding diabetes. I’m so grateful for this incredible team effort and the support from everyone involved. Here’s to safe travels and good health for all!

Hello everyone, this photographs is a picture of one of my clients transport on Friday morning, one ambulance and one firetruck with first responders.

So my latest update from San Diego. Upon our return, one of our group members experienced a serious health issue related to her diabetes, known as Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA). This condition led to elevated blood sugar levels, and she was hospitalized. The medical team at Mercy San Diego Hospital provided exceptional care, and during their assessment, they noted that her previous bariatric surgery had healed remarkably well and her physician today told me she was very impressed with her gastric sleeve and what a professional job the surgeon in Mexico had done. Today, I’m pleased to report that her surgical incisions have closed beautifully.

The rest of our group departed for New Zealand on Saturday night. I accompanied them to Los Angeles Airport and then returned to San Diego to be with our hospitalized member for the past 4 days. I’ve been visiting her daily, and while the initial days were concerning due to her unresponsiveness, I’m happy to share that she has been moved from the ICU to a regular ward. This morning, she was alert, engaging in conversation, and enjoying protein drinks.

We’re hoping that the travel insurance that she bought privately is hopefully going to cover the medical expenses, since she a had pre-existing diabetic condition for many years. This experience underscores the importance of comprehensive travel insurance. I personally use Global Solutions, which offers coverage for elective surgeries. While the premium is US$450, the peace of mind it provides is invaluable.

Thank you all for your support and well wishes during this time.

Update from San Diego!

We left Tijuana around midday with everyone feeling pretty good overall. The group is bouncing back quickly! Once we crossed the border into the USA, we stopped at San Diego’s largest outlet mall for a quick 90-minute shop around. Now, everyone’s relaxing at our hotel in San Diego, gearing up for tomorrow’s adventure at the San Diego Zoo!

For privacy reasons, I can’t share photos of our clients, as I’m sure you understand. However,I am sharing photos of our dinner this evening!

Great news! Everyone’s out of the hospital and now kicking back at our comfortable 4-star hotel in Tijuana. After a little stroll to the supermarket to grab some electrolytes and stretch their legs, everyone’s relaxing in style.

And guess what? I had the absolute pleasure of meeting the owner of Blue Tower Hospital today! What a gem of a guy—he’s not only a passionate plastic surgeon but also travels the globe, training others and speaking at conferences. He’s even trained surgeons in Australia! Now, I’m crossing my fingers he’ll take up our offer to come to New Zealand for a road trip with me, Brian, Pam, and Dr. Giovanni. How cool would that be?

Today was the big event—bariatric surgery day for the whole crew! Half of them are already done and dusted, with just two more to go. So far, so good! Of course, they’ll be feeling a bit blah for the next couple of days, but honestly, they’ve had such a blast on this trip that they all said the same thing: “We’d do it all over again!” Fun times galore!

I’m just making a quick pit stop back at the hotel to grab a jumper because, surprise, it’s suddenly a bit chilly over here. Then it’s back to the hospital! Pam, Brian, and I have been there since the crack of dawn—7am! Everything should wrap up by 7pm, and then I can finally relax, knowing they’re all in good hands. Almost time to kick my feet up!

What a day! We cruised from San Diego to Tijuana without a hitch, kicked things off with a taste of the famous onion or tortilla soup at Tijuana’s top restaurant “Caesar’s” (so good!), and then hit the ceramics shops for some serious retail therapy. Next stop: the beach, where we saw the legendary Wall stretch right into the ocean—crazy cool! Now we’re back at our fab four-star hotel, enjoying more soup and ice blocks, gearing up for tomorrow when the real magic happens! Excitement’s in the air!

This was a beautiful lady we had on our trip January 2024 showing us her weight loss journey

Bit of a vulnerable post for me and one I have wanted to make for a long time but had been putting off...for a number of reasons.

Going into having the surgery earlier this year I had been very vocal about wanting to share my progress with people I love and care about but when it came down to actually doing it...I found reasons to not do it.
I have thought a lot about why and I think it is because of the fear and anxiety of showing just how much I had let myself go. Looking back at my old photos I am filled with so many emotions, embarrassment is the main one but they also make me quite sad.
I honestly do not recognize the person I see. I never felt as big as I actually was and I am now working on trying to switch those feelings around to positive ones with the progress I have made.

I am making this post today because last week I hit my first major goal I set for myself. When I booked my surgery with BUMS TUMS and GUMS I was 167.7kgs at 6ft tall. This number scared the crap out of me and was a massive wake up call.
Last week I hopped on the scale and saw 120kgs...this is what I weighed shortly after I met Korbin (so when I was 17).

The weight sits very differently on me now as a 25 year old mother but I'm still so proud of how far I have come.

I was so scared to share my progress because I'm still working on loosing weight was scared of judgement (the judgement comes from my brain which I am working on). But I'm tired of being too scared to share photos with my family and friends. I didn't even share photos from my 25th this year because of these feelings so I definitely need to work on that.

But anyway, to start working on loving myself and my progress I wanted to share with people the pictures and videos from before my op and post op progress. Photos and videos don't really show just how much I have changed so a little more information, I have gone from wearing size 28-30 and 4-6xl to now wearing 18-20 and L-XL.

I have started doing Pilates and other activities I would of been too scared to do before surgery and I can't wait to see the progress that comes next.

All my love to those that have encouraged and supported me through this 💕

We had an absolute blast in San Diego! The whole gang hopped on the Old Town Trolley Tour, ticking off all the must-see spots around the city. After soaking up the sights, we dove into the pool for a refreshing splash. Then, it was off to Ross Dress for Less, gearing up with outfits for the slimming-down stage. This group is fantastic—tons of laughs, endless fun, and so much aroha all around!

We kicked off the day at the “happiest place on earth” as the gates of Disneyland swung open! Some in our group were ride warriors, lasting the whole day, while others started to feel the burn by lunchtime. So, what do you do when your feet are begging for mercy and you’ve already tackled most of the rides? Naturally, you hit up a massive outlet store for some retail therapy! I wrapped up my day with a heavenly soak in the hot spa pool back at our motel. Tomorrow, it’s off to San Diego with this fabulous bunch—who’ve bonded like one big, happy family!

So it’s happened! 9 Turkish hospitals have been shut down and REYAP hospital (not sure of the others) is one of those. I have always advocated that I would only recommend reputable hospitals, avoiding any disruption. Maintaining those high standards clearly makes all the difference in ensuring a smooth and reliable experience for everyone.

The Ministry of Health in turkey revoked the licenses of nine hospitals in Istanbul after reviewing an investigation report. If the hospitals are found guilty, their assets may be seized, and they could face permanent closure.

That’s why it is so important to ensure you are booking with a reputable company.

(For those clients who have booked with Moana at oceanscapes you are in good hands as she only works with the top surgeons at a top hospital in Istanbul.
This is not scaremongering as it came from hospital source.

As a qualified travel consultant, a European tour guide and wedding event manager I have worked globally and feel comfortable talking to groups from all cultures and in any location.

I personally had restorative surgery in Thailand in 2013. It was always something I knew I would do, It was never a question of if, only when!
