After forty odd years of work, the freedom that retirement grants can be a shock to the system.

While, of course, leaving work can be a relief, it can also leave us feeling overwhelmed. We’re just not used to that kind of flexibility!

Our advice? Embrace it.

Instead of feeling overloaded with possibility, think about all the times in your life when you wished for more time to do the things you love, and do those things!
Embrace the ability to modify your plans and be open to new experiences. Allow yourself the freedom to change direction, try new things, and adjust your goals and routines as needed.

Be kind to yourself, take it one step at a time, and let yourself go with the flow. And, most importantly, enjoy yourself. This is an exciting time of your life.

With all the free time that retirement grants, it's crucial to consider how you want to spend it.

Whether you want to focus on your relationships, or to focus on yourself, make sure that you find a balance between social engagement and solo time.

While maintaining social connections in retirement is important to maintaining good mental health, also consider the importance of solitude.

Solitude gives the opportunity for self-reflection, relaxation, and mindfulness — and it can be truly rejuvenating!

But of course, we don’t recommend spending all your time alone. Also try to seek connections with others, whether it be existing friends, family, or new relationships.

Retirement is an opportunity to get to know both yourself and others better. Balancing alone time with social interaction ensures a well-rounded retirement experience.

One of the most common concerns for potential residents is whether or not they can bring their pets. Here at Greenview we acknowledge the importance of pets as a source of comfort and companionship, especially in what is often a very tumultuous time in our lives.

In saying that, we also strongly value the right of our residents to a comfortable and quiet enjoyment of the village and their home.

As such, while we would love for you to be able to bring your furry friend along, and while they are absolutely welcome, if your pet is going to disrupt the other residents, things become a little more complicated.

In short, our rule on pets varies from case to case. If you want to know if you can bring your pet, contact the Greenview village manager to check.

So if this sounds like something you’re interested in finding out, contact us! We’d love to see you AND your pet in our village.

While it's exciting to leave the hustle and bustle of working life, leaving behind the social aspects of work can be one of the most difficult parts of retiring.

Time and time again, we hear new retirees expressing feelings of loneliness. After all, we go from seeing people everyday at work to, especially if you live alone, hardly seeing anyone at all.

If this is you, we're here to tell you that retirement doesn’t have to be this way.

Focus on maintaining connections with your friends, former colleagues, and family members.

Plan regular get-togethers, outings, or other shindigs to maintain these relationships. Plus, seek out new connections by joining clubs, community groups, or volunteering, to widen your circle and find friends in a similar stage of life.

Having a support network is crucial to navigating the transition into retirement, so don’t be afraid to reach out to your loved ones.

And, if you’re interested in village life, please, reach out. We’d love to hear from you.

Worried that moving into one of our apartments or villas means giving up your beloved garden? Fret not, because you can absolutely have your garden right here!

Have you always wanted to learn to sew, but never had the time? Or maybe it was reading, or gardening, or painting, or learning a language?
With so much of our lives taken up with work, there’s often little time left for exploring new skills.

If there’s something you’ve always wanted to try, perhaps something that’s been resting in the back of your mind, there is no time like retirement to give it a go.

With endless days off, think about new activities, hobbies, or interests that you want to pursue. You can enrol in classes or workshops, find how-to books, or scour the internet for tutorials. Or, jump right in and practise your new interests through trial and error.

Exploring new interests enhances personal growth, boosts cognitive abilities, and adds excitement to your retirement journey!

So, what do you want to try in retirement?
