The Spuds Have Spoken

After two months of watering, waiting… and a few close calls with rogue slugs, the Longridge Annual Potato Competition wrapped up on Saturday.

Seed potatoes were handed out in early September. Everyone got the same start. Same bag, same soil, same serious rules. Audits were even done by clipboard-carrying officials.

On Saturday morning at 9:30am, the bags were collected (under supervision) and taken to the judging area. No peeking.

Then at 2pm judging got underway. Peter was in charge, with Phyllis and Gail helping out. After a lot of weighing, measuring and a few good laughs, we ended up with our winners:

🥇 Largest Yield: Vivien – 1.531kg
🥔 Biggest Potato: David – 34cm across
😆 Funniest Potato: Dave – we’ll let the photo do the talking
🥄 Smallest Yield: Ron – 0.228kg (still counts!)

Big thanks to Alan and Chrissy for organising the event. Same time next year?

We’ve had some new renderings done for Stage 1 of our Community & Recreational Centre.
Construction for this first part got underway this year, so it’s nice being able to share how it’s expected to look.

🐎 MELBOURNE CUP AT LONGRIDGE

Our residents didn’t muck around yesterday for Melbourne Cup day. The women looked especially fabulous in bold, colourful dresses, bright patterns and a few very impressive fascinators.

We had a sweepstake running, snacks on the go, bubbles and beers and plenty of cheering at the TV.

Thanks to everyone who got involved, you looked brilliant!

He's one of our residents who volunteers as a driver in Paeroa.
He helps with our village van too, driving residents to outings, shopping trips, and hospital appointments.
