A full van of residents headed north to Taranaki this week for a wonderful Village outing to the Tawhiti Museum. 🚐

Created by artist Nigel Ogle, Tawhiti is widely regarded as one of New Zealand’s most innovative museums, bringing history to life through incredibly detailed life-size exhibits and scale model displays. With over 5,500 square metres of fascinating dioramas and exhibits — many built onsite in the museum’s “Body Shop” studios — there was plenty to explore and enjoy.

After a leisurely wander through the museum, we made our way into Hāwera for a wonderful lunch at The Gathering Café, before heading back to the Village just in time for Happy Hour — the perfect way to round off another great Village outing.

What a remarkable milestone!

It’s not often that a couple has the privilege of celebrating their 70th Wedding Anniversary, and today we send our heartfelt congratulations to Ron and Jaqui on reaching this incredible achievement.

Seventy years of love, commitment, and shared memories is truly something special.

We hope you enjoy a wonderful afternoon celebrating with your family this weekend in the Village Community Centre — a very well-deserved celebration indeed.

A full van headed north this morning to the “Huntaway Capital of the World” – Hunterville!

We enjoyed a wander through some wonderful local shops before sitting down for a meal at the beautifully restored Argyle Hotel.

My beef salad was absolutely outstanding – I’ll definitely be back to work my way through more of the menu another time!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along. Great company, plenty of giggles, and another lovely village outing ticked off

A beautiful day has dawned in the Manawatū — so stunning that even the moon decided to hang around a little longer.
We’re looking forward to Waitangi Day tomorrow, capped off with a classic BBQ at Happy Hour, put on by our wonderful Social Committee.
Great company, good food, and a bit of Kiwi summer — doesn’t get much better than that

After a week’s delay due to poor weather (I know, it’s January… what on earth?), a group finally headed off to Bushy Park for a walk through the inland island to see what the area may have looked like 150 years ago.

Saddlebacks and robins amongst others certainly made themselves known as we wandered along the tracks. The small museum provided an interesting insight into the history of the area and the continued work that Forest & Bird and its volunteers do to ensure this treasure continues to exist.

A wander through the 1906 Homestead was a wander through history. Beautifully kept in period setting, a fantastic treat.

A gentle drive back, with a stop for ice-creams and fruit, rounded off another lovely day out. Thanks to everyone who came along.

Christmas is a wonderful time to celebrate the year — and on Friday night we had an extra reason to celebrate!
Aileen turned a fabulous 90 and marked the occasion in style with the Happy Hour crew. Laughter, smiles, and good cheer were in abundance.
Thank you, Aileen, for sharing such a special evening with us — and here’s to 90 wonderful years! 🎉🥂

Our Ōtaki shopping trip turned into quite the dynamic journey through Horowhenua and southern Manawatū! It’s fair to say the Ōtaki shopping district has lost a little of its former sparkle, with several stores having closed since our last visit. There were still a few bargains to be found, though!
From there we headed to Ōtaki Beach for lunch (and a bit more shopping, of course). I stumbled across a fantastic art gallery — though the prices mean I’ll need a decent Lotto win before I go back for another look!
The journey home included a stop for free-range eggs, a visit to the RJ’s Liquorice outlet in Levin, and finally a detour to Himitangi for an ice cream to round off the day.

Thanks to everyone who came along and made it such an enjoyable outing! 😊

Greytown Getaway – Chasing Sunshine Heading off to Greytown to escape the wind and rain that’s been hanging around Palmerston North for far too long, we set out in search of sunshine, boutiques, and a good bite to eat.

Eight residents piled into the van, two followed by car, and together we enjoyed a wonderful day out. I personally came away with a delicious chilli sauce (no gin this time, you’ll be pleased to know!) and managed a lovely catch-up with an old friend and his family.
Others spent the day wandering the charming streets, catching up with friends, and indulging in a bit of retail therapy. Unfortunately, a couple of folks took the “hit the streets” part a little too literally, but thanks to the quick help of fellow residents, kind members of the public, and even the Wellington Free Ambulance in one case, everyone was – though a little sore – safe and well.
All in all, a memorable day out, full of laughs, good company, and a few stories we’ll be sharing for a while yet!

Blue Ribbon Breakfast was another wonderful event, attended by nearly 50 residents. Thank you to everyone who came along for breakfast, purchased raffles, and made donations in support of the Prostate Cancer Foundation NZ. Together, we raised an impressive $585 for the Foundation.
Congratulations to our raffle winners, who walked away with plenty of goodies to enjoy!

Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this event happen. From setting up on Friday afternoon and evening, to firing up the BBQ at 7.30am, cracking and scrambling eggs, toasting bread, washing dishes, moving furniture, collecting money, and selling raffles—it was an incredible team effort. Everything was done with smiles and good spirits, and it truly made the morning a success. Thank you. - Andrew

What a day! On a cold, wet, and blustery morning, an adventurous group set off early for our trip to Wellington and Te Papa. Normally, Transmission Gully would be the quicker option, but with the wild winds we stuck to the older, steadier road home (those gusts were fierce!).

We arrived in good time—only to stay warm in the van while a few hundred others waited outside for a fire alarm to be cleared. Once inside, we made the most of it with hot cuppas, plenty of chatter, and exploring the exhibitions. While a number of displays were closed for updates, there was still more than enough to enjoy.

The funniest moment came just before we left. From the 6th floor, I spotted a tow truck parked behind our van. Heart racing, I bolted downstairs—faster than I’ve moved in years—only to find it wasn’t for us after all. My sprint caused much laughter for those who caught me racing past in the foyer. Safe to say, I won’t be troubling Usain Bolt anytime soon!

A big thank you to everyone who joined in—it turned into a fantastic day out, despite the weather.
