We are a kaupapa Māori service based at Te Wakahuia Manawatū Trust. We are dedicated to walking alongside whānau affected by cancer. Our role is to provide practical, emotional, cultural, and advocacy support to ensure whānau feel informed, empowered, and never alone throughout their cancer journey.
Our Māori Cancer Coordinators (MCCs) offer:
• Support at medical appointments (advocacy and understanding treatment options)
• Assistance with transport and navigating the health system
• Help accessing community services and entitlements
• Emotional and whānau-centered support
• Guidance with advance care planning and future planning when appropriate
We service the Manawatū region, including Palmerston North, and also support whānau who are travelling to and staying in Palmerston North for cancer treatment.
For whānau based in neighboring areas, Māori Cancer Coordinators are also available in Horowhenua, Tararua, Whanganui and Taranaki districts to ensure localised support across the wider rohe.
Our kaupapa is grounded in manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, and equity, ensuring whānau receive the care, respect, and support they deserve.
If you or someone you know could benefit from our service, please reach out. We are here to help 🤍
