💡 Tips Tuesday | Small Habits, Big Health Benefits

Sometimes it’s the simple things that make the biggest difference to your health:
✅ Drink water regularly — don’t wait until you feel thirsty
✅ Move your body a little every day, even a short walk counts
✅ Take medications as prescribed and set reminders if needed
✅ Prioritise sleep — your body does its best repair work when you rest
✅ If something doesn’t feel right, don’t wait — check in with your GP early

Looking after your health doesn’t have to be complicated. Small, consistent steps add up over time. 💙

🍎 A Note for Our Teachers

As the school year begins, we want to take a moment to say thank you to all the teachers and school staff in our community.

You do so much more than teach — you support wellbeing, notice the small changes, manage big feelings, and help shape young lives every day. That mahi doesn’t go unnoticed. 💙

As you settle back into routines, please remember to look after yourselves too:
☕ Take short breaks where you can
💧 Stay hydrated
😴 Protect your sleep
💬 Reach out for support if things feel overwhelming

We’re grateful for everything you do for our tamariki and rangatahi. Wishing you a healthy, positive start to the year ahead.

📄 Prescription Changes from 1 February 2026 – What You Need to Know

From 1 February 2026, the Ministry of Health is changing how long some prescriptions can be issued for.

👉 The maximum prescription length will increase from 3 months to up to 12 months for many medications.

Here’s what that means for you:

💊 Not all medicines will be eligible
Some medications and medical conditions aren’t suitable for 12-month prescriptions due to safety or the need for closer monitoring. Your provider will decide what’s safest during your Medication Review.

🚫 Controlled drugs are not included
Medications such as morphine, codeine, ADHD stimulants and sedatives will continue to have shorter prescription lengths. These can still be requested via My Indici, with the usual repeat fee.

🩺 Medication Reviews are key
At your Medication Review, you and your provider will:
• Plan your health needs for the year
• Decide the most appropriate prescription length
• Agree on how often you need reviews
• Schedule any blood tests or screening

📌 To help your appointment run smoothly:
• Please don’t bring unrelated health issues to this visit
• Dress appropriately for checks (e.g. blood pressure)

🔁 For now – keep requesting 3-monthly repeats
Please continue requesting your usual 3-monthly repeats until you’ve had your yearly Medication Review.
After that, most people won’t need to request repeats, as prescriptions will be organised during review appointments.

📱 12-month scripts cannot be ordered via My Indici
These are only provided during a Medication Review consultation.

🏥 Pharmacy dispensing stays the same
Even with a 12-month prescription, your pharmacy will still dispense medication every 3 months (or less), from the same pharmacy, until the prescription expires.

📞 Near the end of your 12-month prescription?
Please call us to book your next Medication Review before you run out.
Short “tide-over” prescriptions may incur an additional fee.

If you’re starting a new medication, or if your medicines are changed by a hospital doctor or specialist, shorter prescription lengths will still apply until reviewed at the practice.

💙 We’ll continue to guide you through these changes and make sure your care remains safe, clear, and well supported.

If you have questions, please talk to our team.
