Whānau, we will continue our mahi 🌿

Thank you to those who provided tautoko and made a submission.

While we are disappointed by the proposal to remove our direct link to Te Whatu Ora and the Government, our focus stays on the wellbeing of whānau in our rohe and upholding Māori decision making in health.

We still have the mandate of the seven mana whenua of the Mid-Central District. We will keep working to improve the healthcare system, advocate for local health needs and share proven solutions and data to deliver better outcomes for all.

We welcome the opportunity to work with Health Minister Simeon Brown to achieve these goals together.

Help us keep Māori voices in our health system.

The Healthy Futures (Pae Ora) Amendment Bill would reduce Māori decision making in health and weaken Treaty commitments. These changes risk undoing progress towards fairness and equity.

Your whakaaro matters. Share your views with the Health Select Committee through the official Government submission page.

The Healthy Futures (Pae Ora) Act is under review and changes are being proposed. These changes will lessen Māori involvement in health decision-making, shift some Te Tiriti o Waitangi commitments and remove equity measures that protect vulnerable communities.

We all want a health system that delivers fair outcomes. Right now Māori live on average seven years less than Pākehā, so every decision matters.

🖊 Make your submission on the Healthy Futures Amendment Bill today.

It can be as simple as writing “I oppose this Bill”. You can also include reasons that matter to you, such as protecting Te Tiriti in our health system, keeping Māori voices in health decision-making, and safeguarding equity measures for vulnerable communities.

The proposed changes could remove key protections and reduce Māori input into decisions that affect health outcomes for everyone.

Better health for everyone starts with strong Māori leadership in our health system 💚

We are the Iwi Māori Partnership Board for the Mid-Central District, representing the voices and health needs of 44,000 Māori in Manawatū, Palmerston North, Horowhenua, Tararua and Ōtaki.

Since 2022 we have worked alongside our community to improve health outcomes, commissioning research, advising government and sharing insights so health providers can deliver better care for everyone.

📊 In April 2025, Te Whatu Ora reported that 43% of people using hauora Māori services here do not identify as Māori. This shows these services benefit the whole community.

✍️ Help protect services that work. Make your submission on the Healthy Futures Amendment Bill today: https://www.parliament.nz/en/pb/sc/make-a-submission/document/54SCHEA_SCF_4F909A7B-8E87-4FEF-8401-08DDB9140FC1/healthy-futures-pae-ora-amendment-bill

The Government is proposing changes to the Healthy Futures (Pae Ora) Act. These changes will affect Māori decision-making in health, reduce Te Tiriti o Waitangi commitments and change equity rules that help protect vulnerable communities.

📉 Māori already live on average seven years less than Pākehā in New Zealand. Our health system should help to close that gap, not widen it.
