Join us for the Big Latch On - a celebration of connection, community and the amazing journey of breastfeeding!
On Friday 27 March, from 10am–12pm, we’re gathering at Te Papaioea Birthing Centre for this global moment where breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and mixed‑feeding parents latch their pēpi all at the same time in a beautiful show of solidarity.
We’ll mingle, connect and enjoy the morning together - then everyone will latch at 11am for the official Big Latch On count!
Bring your baby, bring your whānau, and bring your good vibes - this is a relaxed, supportive space to meet others, share stories and celebrate feeding your baby your way.
✨ Plus… spot prizes!
Fun giveaways will be happening throughout the morning, so everyone has a chance to take home something special.
Come celebrate the power of nurturing, the magic of community and the joy of doing something meaningful together. We can’t wait to latch, laugh and connect with you!
Please register for this event https://www.womens-health.org.nz/.../big-latch-on-at-te.../
💛A big thank you to Health NZ - Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua MidCentral NZ, Barnardos, La Leche League, Entwined Parenting and & Film for your collaboration for this event💛

On International Women’s Day, Sunday 8 March, we pause to recognise the incredible women who keep our hospital running, every hour of every day.
From nurses, doctors and midwives, to cleaners, administrators, allied health professionals, technicians, support staff and our leaders, women make up the heartbeat of healthcare. Their work happens in wards and clinics, behind computer screens, in laboratories, in community settings and in quiet moments of care that patients and whānau remember long after they leave.
In our hospital, women lead teams, deliver babies, support recovery, comfort families, solve complex problems and keep our services moving. They bring knowledge, compassion, resilience and humour to some of the most important moments in people’s lives. Healthcare has always been shaped by the dedication of women who step forward to care for others.
Today we celebrate that legacy and the women across our hospital who continue to carry it forward.
To all the women who show up each day for our patients, our whānau and each other, thank you for the care, skill and strength you bring to our community.
Happy International Women’s Day.

📢 Remember the online GP service is available 24/7 while nurses are striking next Tuesday 2 and Thursday 4 September.

The online GP service offers you round-the-clock access to trusted medical care when your regular GP is unavailable, or you're not enrolled.

You can connect with NZ qualified, registered doctors and nurse practitioners who can assess, diagnose, treat, prescribe, and refer, all online.

The new service complements regular general practice and helps ease pressure on clinics. Subsidised fees are available for children under 14, young people aged 14 to 17, and Community Services Card holders.

HPV (human papillomavirus) is one of the most common viruses in the world. For many people it causes no harm, but it can lead to several preventable cancers.
✅ The HPV vaccine is the best protection against HPV. It’s a safe and effective way to protect people of all genders.
💙 The HPV vaccine is free for people aged 9 - 26. Most young people are offered the vaccine at school, usually in Year 7 or 8. This is the best time to vaccinate and get long lasting protection.
🏫 Missed it at school? You, or your whānau, can still catch up. It’s easy to get the HPV vaccine from your local healthcare providers. You can also book online through Book My Vaccine.
👫HPV affects everyone. Cervical cancer is the most common cancer caused by HPV, but it’s not the only one. Around a third of HPV related cancers affect men.
🫶When everyone is vaccinated, it helps protect the whole community.

What’s your oral healthcare routine!? 🪥😁

While there aren't hard and fast rules, it's often recommended to use mouthwash before brushing, rather than after. That way it won’t wash away all the fluoride goodness from your toothpaste 🤯 So use options “B” or “D” in the graph for the VIP treatment. 🦷

Brush at least twice a day, floss daily, and keep those pearly whites shining! ✨

Syphilis is in our community, and many people who have it do not notice any symptoms. If you are having s*x, ask for a quick blood test. It is simple and can help protect you and others.
Syphilis can be passed on to s*xual partners and to unborn children, so early testing is important.
